Move also gives the Nuggets ~$4M in additional cap room. Outside of the cap room saved this is a really good move for the Nuggets. KCP is a good 3 and D guy and an upgrade off the bench from Barton.

Edit: Apparently Ish Smith's deal is non-guaranteed so that's even more cap savings for the Nuggets if they waive him.
cannot imagine why they would not waive him - he is 3rd point guard and not worth the salary they would have to pay and they want Bones to succeed

The Denver media seems to think that KCP is going to start and Bones will be the back up point behind Murray.
Malone is still big on defense and that is what they missed with Barton and partially Morris
Bones needs to get better on D (that will ultimately determine how soon he becomes a full time starter and someone on the court in the 4th quarter crunch time ) I think he can but ............. news at 11

Barton is clearly talented but hijacks possessions too often. Murray does the same thing in all honesty, but he's good enough to have earned the leeway for it. Basically if you're not a great defender and you're taking shots/playmaking opportunities from a two time MVP, there better be a really good reason.

Despite how well Bones played last year…. No way Bones is gonna start unless they move Murray to SG. And no way he’s gonna start over an 8-9 year veteran at SG.

Plus why get KCP in the trade if you ain’t gonna start him when they got 3 other SGs on the roster and they got rid of Morris.

I think AA is saying KCP will start at the 2 and Bones will be the primary backup for Murray at the 1.

As an aside, sad to see Ish Smith leaving DC. Dude has played for half the NBA in 11 seasons and is supposedly loved everywhere he goes. He’s an undersized guy who straight balls as a backup. Always accepts his role and gets at it. He’s always been one of my favorite players.

I’m an Ish fan too…..he can fill it up, unfortunately his opposite usually has a pretty good night as well.

The Nuggets can't waive him. He's on the verge of setting the record for playing on the most teams in NBA history. Gotta make sure he hangs around for opening night! lol

Yeah I think they'll keep Ish. It makes sense to keep a 3rd PG when your starter is coming off a major injury.

I think it's a rare win-win trade. Denver gets better at perimeter defending, and Washington gets a starting caliber point without sacrificing draft picks. I do think KCP's defense is overrated a bit, not that he isn't solid. Morris started all year, but he shared playmaking duties with Jokic. I'd like to see Beal playing off the ball most of the time, we'll see if that happens. Morris/Porzingis pick and roll should be pretty sweet.

Denver can’t afford it, but if they wanted to create a championship level team around Jokic that could compete with Golden State, Boston, Milwaukee, Phoenix, etc…

Not surprising....he tried his hand at creating a "super team", made a nice little run in '20/21.....and it blew up in his face for myriad reasons

No point in hanging around that dysfunctional mess...morbidly curious how this plays out
