Just took a look at how the Sooners are doing. Although they're 8-6, their 8 wins are against teams with a combined record of 16-73 (4 of the 8 have only won once). Six of their eight victories are against teams with RPIs worse than 250. Their best win is against Texas Southern, with an RPI of 157.

Yikes.

That's sad to hear. He's a great guy and one that loves VCU a lot.

I hope he keeps his job or at least lands on his feet somewhere. He did a lot of good for us in his time here.

Capel will get fired at end of season. Sorry I love the man, but it is what it is. However, a good 'landing on his feet' could be a return to the CAA. How about Towson? Honestly I would not have a problem with it. He could recruit Baltimore better than that loser they got now. I'm just saying, doubt this would come to fruition.
I just want him to remain in coaching. I really like Jeff Capel. He'd probably be to 'proud' to return to the CAA. Southern Conference perhaps? What do the boards think?

Would love to see him come back to the CAA (as long as its not GMU  ). Doesn't matter what university grabs him, he would surely increase the profile and quality of any one of them in a conference that is really emerging as a force to be reckoned with. He does deserve a fair share of credit for getting the CAA more recognition in the past decade, so maybe he'll come back to reap what he's sewn. Same could be said for Coach Grant. It would be quite bittersweet going up against either one of them in conference play though, not a match-up that I would look forward to.

We are talking about him like he's already gone. We'll see what happens. You won't find me putting money on it that he won't be fired after this year, but at the same time he still is their coach. Same goes for Anthony Grant. A few people have been talking like he's gone, but he is 1-0 in SEC play after an 18 point road win over Mississippi State and 5-1 in his last six games.

Probably shouldn't have bothered clicking on "read post" but what's worse, talking about Capel like he's done at OU or talking about Shaka like he's a sack of garbage you would like to toss out at the first opportunity? Funny you defend Capel and not Shaka....just sayin'.

It's speculation, just speculation. Let's see what happens in March. :(

Things certainly aren't going very well for Capel in OK these days, but if they did get rid of him could they do any better? I am not sure that they could. Kudos to him for not bailing on his team after he lost his star player in the NBA draft in 2009 and coming back to see what he could do without him. That shows character. He stuck with Oklahoma and maybe Oklahoma will stick with him this time around.

I'm not sure if they can do better but at the rate things are going they cant do much worse. I do not see anyway he keeps his job next season.

Which would help recruiting more: the new arena or a new coach that couldn't hack it at Oklahoma?

They went to the Elite Eight literally two years ago. I don't see how anyone can make statements with such certainty.

Yeah, but its all about what have you done for me lately. His teams have been horrible since Blake Griffin left. I don't see him keeping his job after this season.

I feel sorry (somewhat) for the guy. If I remember correctly, didn't he lose all of Oklahoma's commitments (including Scottie Reynolds and Damion James) when he became their HC? He did sign Blake Griffin so you have to give him credit for that.

Agreed. If he does get released I guess it wouldn't be unexpected, and I am not defending him, but I just don't think they will do any better. Often however schools refuse to acknowledge that they aren't as great as they think they are and make a coaching change to their own detriment. The Elite Eight as well as having the #1 and #20 picks in the 2009 draft should still carry a lot of weight when recruiting. I think that makes a lot more difference (getting drafted) when recruiting then we as fans sometimes realize. No matter how unrealistic it may seem just about every high school player that has a bunch of colleges after him thinks they are going to be drafted Capel has proven that he can get kids there. I don't think Oklahoma will ever be a Big 12 powerhouse, but I believe Capel has just as good a chance of turning things around as anyone else they could hire would.
