Maybe @rammad90 can explain to us how Groce is actually still employed by Illinois.
New AD who didn't hire Groce
Multiple arrests of players
Middling to poor results

Is it simply because he has a really good class coming in and they're afraid to lose them??

And for the record...there is robust traffic in the VCU Baseball sub forum!!!!

Yeah, and I am pretty sure I read someplace that it is a top 20 program!

We have NIT threads and other threads not strictly pertinent to VCU so thought I would start a college coaching change thread. This thread has absolutely NOTHING to do with WW, nor do I expect it to. I am just following the coaching changes as an interest.

It's a bit dated but the best I could find

I'm amazed that Monte Ross was able to stick around DE a long as he did.

Rumor is that Drexel will pick up Army coach Zack Spiker who's record is an unimpressive 102-112.

There are a lot of losing coaches out there on the market this year.

Surprised a bit about Matt Brady at JMU....he was 20-9 this year too. But truthfully, I never thought he could bring JMU fully back to a winning program. Then again, I really didn't follow JMU before they had Dillard about 15 years ago and they've been in the basement ever since (except for the last several years under Brady). I wonder who they will get?
Wow! Bruiser FINALLY out. That took way way too long. Noticed JMU and Delaware are on there too. I wonder what made these CAA teams get serious about basketball this year. Maybe just coincidence.

Love this bit from their Press Release, The Second Decade of the Mick Cronin Era Starts Now

Now a fixture at the Big Dance, Cincinnati can include itself on an elite list of eight programs appearing in six consecutive NCAA Tournaments, along with Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina, VCU and Wisconsin.
Love seeing this. Great list. Proves that VCU is an established PROGRAM

Spiker to Drexel is a very weird hire (the hire has since been confirmed). Yes, Army has had some winning seasons lately, but they are a very mediocre program and Zach Spiker isn't exactly the greatest coach in the world, though I guess a CAA job is better than a Patriot League job. I seriously think Drexel might be wishing they'd have kept Bruiser another year after next season.

Matt Brady leaving JMU shocked me. They've had up and down years but I'm surprised JMU would let him go after two straight decent seasons (albeit with early postseason exits those years).

I've been thinking something over the last few days, and I wonder what you folks think.

If I am an AD at a bad program in a bad conference, let's say the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, which finished 8-22 and second to last place in the WAC, and I just fired my old coach, why not hire Xavier's assistant coach, Luke Murray (Bill Murray's son)? Whether he is successful or not, you'd get a lot of publicity, and maybe even a donation or something down the line from Bill. Regardless, you'd get a little publicity, which would be a positive for a school that has never been to the big dance.

Thoughts?

Why? We have an NIT thread, "small ball" future thread, Bri and Tre threads all in the basketball thread rather than off topic or VCU history thread.

This thread is A10 topical as it relates to VCU in that SLU is looking for a coach.
The is an A10 forum.
