I would rather spend time on the players on the roster than speculating on every single athlete that gets an offer.

It's as bad as all of the speculation before the NFL draft and the millions of mock drafts beforehand that do not come to fruition.

I aprreciate the info., it's just too too much.

Money has been involved long before the NIL
Yes, we all agree on that. However, there was a notion that before the NIL, that giving money to recruits/players was wrong, as in against
NCAA rules and regulations, and that participation in such could get you, the team, school, player, coach, admin, etc. in trouble if caught. There are many people with a conscience that would not participate then, but the NIL has opened up the door for whoever feels lead to participate to do so guilt-free to the extent their pocketbook can stand.

Whole new ballgame now.

As such, I think an old phrase recruits still use needs to change as the phrase, at least to me, carries a new and different meaning - "I'm excited to announce I have received an offer from (insert school name here)."

DL speculation is just that.

How do you know that VCU was his second choice?

Go back and read Jamie Shaw's piece just before Trey announced his commitment.

Also, for those who are interested. I went thru Elmarko twitter. Elmarko is only following one head coach of the final 11 schools, Mike Rhoades as well as the rest of the staff. The only other two schools with which he has multiple twitter connections is Villanova and Maryland but he only follows their assistants.

All of those are definitely true as well. But the reality is, it’s not most of these kids dream to play college basketball. Their dreams and ultimate goal is to get paid playing basketball and now they can do it playing in college.
No technically they cannot get paid to play basketball. NIL is not for playing ball, it is for recognition of name/image/likeness that one may gain from playing basketball. I have no idea what kind of NIL package VCU can put together or who we can compete with on that basis, but I do know we are still in the game with players who have been offered by P5/6 programs who supposedly have lots of NIL. This tells me we are maybe not as poor as some of us think in terms of NIL.

"
Among those playing in the game were a couple of key Maryland recruiting targets, including South Kent (Conn.) point guard

Elmarko Jackson and Derik Queen, a 6-foot-8, 245-pound forward from Baltimore who currently attends Montverde Academy in Florida.

It is another top recruiting target, however, that Kaiser has been helping lead the charge for since committing to Maryland

"DeShawn Harris-Smith," Kaiser told Glenn Clark on his radio show Aug. 15.

"I’ve tried to talk to him as much as possible. I’m just like, we can just build something that’s crazy that makes people want to stay home. I feel like if the DMV had guys that stayed home, they’d be contending for championships every year just because the talent is so rich.

"It’s something special about staying at home and doing it in front of your own people, is what I always tell him. He’s such a good player, he can go anywhere he wants. But I just try to tell him there’s just a certain freedom you’ll get and a certain comfort level you’ll have and you’ll be able to expand your game the more comfortable you feel because you won’t have to worry about much else."

Harris-Smith, a four-star guard out of Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI who led Team Takeover to the Nike EYBL Peach Jam championship game, recently cut his list down to a final five of Indiana, Maryland, Penn State, Villanova and Xavier. He is expected to announce his decision before the end of August.".

Several things here:

A) Maryland, which is the team right now many receuiting analysts feel have an inside track on Elmarko, has 2 scholarships left to use on 1 guard and 1 big.

B) Maryland is looking at Elmarko and DeShawn to fill the guard spot.

C) Kaiser, a long time friend of DeShawn, is recruiting DeShawn hard, to come to Maryland and re-establish the Maryland's local DMV recruiting presence.

D) DeShawn is making his decision at the end of August. Most of the recruiting sites are predicting DeShawn to Maryland. If Maryland gets DeShawn, then the Terps are out of consideration for Elmarko.

This is a prime example of how relationships between players can take greater importance over money(NIL).

Other teams to watch on Elmarko's cut list.

UCLA- Mic Cronin has playing time. He has 7 open scholarships and 0 commitments.

Miami - isaiah Wong, is a WEr1 alum recruiting Elmarko for Larrananga.

Villanova - They have established ties with Emarko.

Kansas - Elmarko has commented about taking an OV there.

I would be surprised if Virginia would.get an OV because the Cavs are overseas in Italy right now and Elmarko has stated on several occasions that he wants to play in a fast system where guards have freedom.

Elmarko Jackson rose 78 positions to #63. As a result, his national composite rankings when all the rankings are taken together is #31!
