Great for Mason and the conference.
But it is not all practice facility money. It's also money going towards upgrades at Eagle Bank Arena Regarding the basketball practice facility, they are basically taking an existing building, putting lipstick on it and calling it the new dedicated practice facility. Below is from the article:
"With the current landscape of budgets and funding, the basketball redesign abides by the university's vision of creativity in using existing resources with respect to cost. The renovation of "Cage Gym" represents a cost savings of approximately $13 million when compared to the establishment of a new stand-alone facility."
Exactly, to save money. We didnt have that option with Franklin Street.
There are some nice looking pigs in this world. From the article:
"The "Cage Gym" in the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC) will undergo a comprehensive, $1-million renovation that will include significant enhancements to the existing space, including the installation of new hardwood courts, new lighting, six basketball goals, video capabilities and George Mason Patriots branding."
The practice facility is only a piece of the $15 million master plan that also covers Eagle Bank Arena. That's a far cry from VCU's BDC or even what fodu built. It's lipstick on a pig.
$2.2 million is not running with the big dogs. That's an airplane pet carry on container.
Do they have a hospital? I wasn't aware of it.They are are spending 15 million over the next 2 to 3 years. They are enhancing their facilities not completely builying a new complex. Fwiw, they were weighing between buiding a football stadium or new building for humanities and sciences.
They chose the humanities aND sciences as they want invest in being basketball centric program and the best public research institution in the dmv. Sounds alot like us aND certainly a smarter move than odu.
A wise investment, nice!
