It's just weird to see the P5 conferences start cannibalizing each other. Some interesting stuff in this conversation about where realignment is heading. Four major conferences… maybe just three.
OU is pissed off at the Big12 for not getting their back when Fox scheduled several high profile games for 11am CT kick-offs this season. One guy you don’t want to mess with is Joe Castiglione (OU AD), probably the best AD in the biz. Texas and OU are joined at the hip and their overall athletic profiles fit with those of the top SEC schools. It’s a no brainer, especially if a 12 team football playoff comes to fruition. It's just weird to see the P5 conferences start cannibalizing each other.
The Big 12 is also going to get an inferior TV contract the next go around. You can’t blame them for looking for a conference where they will make tens of millions of dollars more.OU is pissed off at the Big12 for not getting their back when Fox scheduled several high profile games for 11am CT kick-offs this season. Yep, both Fox and ESPN have held firm on not extending existing deals with the Big12. It would be a shame from a hoops standpoint, but for football there is only one Oklahoma and Texas isn’t so bad when they aren’t whining. The Big 12 is also going to get an inferior TV contract the next go around. Why would P5 (maybe soon to be P4) schools want to do this? From an economic and competitive standpoint, there’s no reason for them not to do what’s best for themselves.I think there should be a schism between college football and all the other sports, including basketball! Let everyone participate and win! At least have a chance to win because we all know who is going to win in college basketball! There is no other level playing ground.
Certainly right VCU Heel, but many other institutions would take offense. Why would P5 (maybe soon to be P4) schools want to do this? From an economic and competitive standpoint, there’s no reason for them not to do what’s best for themselves.
OU and Texas would make the SEC a super power conference. A lot to lose for UT (in particular their own network) and a lot to gain (their in conference rivalry with A&M). Both A&M and the SEC have benefitted from their affiliation.Texas and OU has put out feeler requests to join the SEC.
