ODUs new conference did pretty well yesterday.

Georgia Southern beat Nebraska
Marshall beat #8 Notre Dame
App State beat #4 Texas A&M

They have natural rivals in the Sunbelt and some pretty decent programs. If the league performs well ODU could possibly be a place good recruits want to be.

The Sun Belt was the talk of college football yesterday and I loved it. If you check the rosters of those three teams you will see that they are loaded with players from the portal. Same thing is happening with basketball. JMU looks good too and their QB came from the portal.

The Sun Belt could turn into a really nice conference. And I could see them having a team in the playoff most years once it expands.

And they did yesterday what the A10 needs to do in basketball. Get big wins.

It is still very early in the season and those rankings are based on no actual data other than they are members of power 5 conferences and automatically get highly ranked.

It’s 3 of the top 21 winningest programs in college football history (including #4 and #9). Add in ODU’s win over VT and their conference has had wins over 4 of the top 25 winningest programs of all time. That’s impressive for the Sun Belt no matter how you slice it.

There are a lot of people that had no idea what the Sun Belt was a few weeks ago that know now.

This is true. People that follow football know that teams from the American, Sun Belt and MAC can beat P5 teams. Heck, some FCS teams do it from time to time.

Doesn't App State do it pretty much every year?

Not every year. They did beat Michigan when they were FCS.
Maybe it just sticks out to me when they do since it's news. I don't keep up with college football at all, so it feels like it happens frequently because that's one of the only things that registers.

I can’t say that UNC has had a lot of games against top 5-6 teams on the road over the last few decades. They did beat #10 Miami on the road in 2020 by 36 points.
The Sun Belt is probably better than the ACC top to bottom. HaHa!

Clearly the SEC and BIGwhatever will take over. The lesserBIG and PAC may slide quite a bit. ACC probably between those 2 groups but closer to the latter.

Honestly it seems more like a P2 moving forward, and a conference like the sunbelt not that far away from the others as you would have thought.
