The Big Ten payout is enough to make distance not matter. The Big East payout is not. Football matters.
Football doesn’t just matter. It is the only thing that matters in college athletics, financially, for those conferences and schools that sponsor and play football.

UCLA and USC will get at least $20 million per year more moving to the Big Ten from the Pac 12. As you say, that “pay raise“ is enough to overcome logistical issues for all of their sports.

Basketball only schools joining football conferences? Well this took a turn. Hey maybe the Big East and ACC will fight over us LOL.

The new Big 12 TV contract is massive, even after losing TX/OK. In the $50 million a year range per team. They can afford to bring in Gonzaga and pay them a premium.

The odds, whatever they were, were low for the Zags to join the BE. This all but guarantees any BE expansion would be coming from the Atlantic 10. Time to do our part as fans to make our profile the best we can.

The way I read this is Football isn't king in selecting Gonzaga for the Big 12 but rather a high quality program in MBB. A couple of more moves like this by P5 might open some things up for us if we get our MBB mojo back.

Been a poster on HolylandofHoops since 2013. If the Zags join the B12, have to imagine Dayton and VCU are all but guaranteed to go to the Big East (as long as they don't get raided - who knows at this point).

Athletic Village.
This move will probably serve as added motivation to get that project completed on schedule. Right now we’d be in a fairly low tier as far as facilities go if we got invited to the Big East.

Not sure any programs except UConn would be interested if other power conferences decided to raid the Big East. Then again, if the B12 is interested in Gonzaga, it might not necessarily be football driving the bus.
