If those teams leave C-USA, it's hard to see how the league survives with the geographical footprint of the remaining teams. I don't think UTEP and fodu want to be playing each other in home and homes every year in non-revenue sports.
The only way C-USA survives is if they can attract some independents to join, but I'm fairly sure most of the FBS independents want nothing to do with C-USA.

ODU fans who were holding out hope for an AAC invite will now tell you how the AAC did them a favor by taking these teams and how the CUSA will now be better with JMU.

The solution is simple. A New Big East, 2 divisions:

WESTERN DIVISION
Creighton
DePaul
Loyola of CHI
WSU
DAY
Marquette
Butler
SLU

EASTERN DIVISION
Nova
UConn
X
VCU
St J’s
Joes
SH
GTown

I'll let you know what Val has to say.

JMU would be crazy to board that sinking ship

You'd think so but a portion of their fanbase seems to want FBS at any cost. JMU should probably stay where they are and enjoy the good thing that they have.

Funny how that works. I felt that way when VCU was left out in the cold after the Metro break up. They are grasping for any hope and if they did add JMU and Liberty it would not be horrible for them I guess. The biggest mistake they made in my opinion was jumping so quickly from FCS to FBS into a conference with so much distance between schools.

JMU has been looking at moving up to FBS. I agree with you on this but they have been rumored to be looking at the Sun Belt and C-USA for the last couple of years. Their fans have also held out hope for an AAC invite as well. I have a feeling you will be calling them crazy soon.

I am guessing the Sun Belt will raid the remaining CUSA teams, or at least some of them, and that includes fodu. UTEP is going to be the big loser in CUSA as they'll have nowhere to go. NMSU 2.0.

JMU subsidizes athletics to tune of nearly $50 million a year from student fees (FCS football is the major culprit of such a deficit)
FBS football will modestly help unless they can be real successful and start playing in mid level Bowl games and improve their profile
IMHO the football decisions of ODU and JMU will lead to years and years of deficits and will hamper other sports at these schools

Lol, have you seen the CUSA media payout? Non-A5 FBS does not pay. I bet JMU makes just about the same now.

Beats me how the odu folks view this as a positive. Their conference is going to be on life support. Sun Belt is head and shoulders above CUsa now consistently cracking or getting teams close to the top 25. Why on earth would a school like Liberty go CUsa over Sunbelt as they are discussing? Would think a team like Marshall may look to upgrade to the Sunbelt as well.

CUsa is now the absolute bottom of the barrel FBS conference with 0 rivalries and limited talent.

C-USA will likely cease to exist in a couple of years. Like you said, the up-and-coming G5 and independent teams like Liberty and Marshall won't be looking to join such a weak conference, and I really don't see any other independents (Army or even lowly UConn & UMass) opting to join. Any FCS teams looking to upgrade to FBS (NDSU, JMU, etc) aren't going to be interested in C-USA either.

Denial is the first stage of grief.
