The caption under one of the photos reads:
THIS YEAR'S R. P. I. GREEN DEVILS--The newest member of State's small college conference, now the Little Seven, the Richmond Professional Institute Green Devils pose with Coach Ed Allen (left) during a practice session at the school's new gym on West Franklin Street.

Who else made up the "little seven"?

Just sos you know, because the medical campus was founded in 1838 by Hampden Sydney and because I have thrown away my comfortable retirement to pay for my youngest son’s tuition, it is spelled Hampden Sydney.

But hey, we can always use a new thread.
I looked but did not see an old thread otherwise I would not have posted it. The story was just published today.
I posted it on Sunday, but then I pay attention.
I was on a 13 hour drive from Florida to WV on Sunday so I wasn't able to pay attention. That happens sometimes when one gets busy.

Hampden-Sydney College (with a hyphen), not to be confused with Hampton University ... And Washington & Lee University .... there is a Washington & Henry High School, however. Although RPI was about as small-time as you can get, the Richmonders did play one Division I game - at VMI - during the coach Ed Allen era. Also, despite no conference affiliation, RPI-ODU was main rivalry - about 40 of so games played, with Monarchs dominating.
