Hason Ward Deserves a Posse

Everyone lose the backup QB. However, one must first realize that Deloach and Ward actually are two different players. We are trying to force Ward to play in the post and he actually isnt a typical post player. Deloach on the other hand is more suited and is more willing to play in the post.

Ward is actually a stretch 4 type. He is playing where his team needs him. However, he really isnt playing the position that will lead to an NBA career. In fairness, Ward does need to learn to play harder and finish at the rim. If he could do that he would be more attractive to the NBA He also, needs to work on positioning for rebounding.

In short, there is no reason to play the two players they are different. Ward for all his flaws is the more talented of the two.
The one concern with labelling Ward being a stretch 4 type is he never has demonstrated the skill set since he arrived at VCU. A stretch 4 in my opinion, is a player who can step out and shoot the 3, attack the rim, and has a mid range game. He may possess the skill set but for whatever reason doesn't show it much or isn't confident enough to show it. He has shown flashes recently of expanding his offensive s skill set where he shot and made some mid range and turn around jumpers. Hopefully, he can become the type of player Justin Tillman was in his senior season. Justin displayed a skill set where he shot and made the 3, attacked off the dribble throughout that season.

Ward is a stretch 4 type. He has the ability to play out on the wing run the floor, fill lanes, make explosive moves to the hoop, and guard out on the perimeter. Can he shoot? Who the heck knows? Do I think with work he could shoot better than Tillman? Yep.

Tillman has been playing ball his entire life. Tillman is a beast with a warriors heart, he is the epitome of Detroit basketball. If Tillman had Ward's physical skills, first he'd never have played for VCU, second, he'd have been a first rounder.

Ward just started playing ball aon a competitive level and is naturally a laid back typical island young man. Further, you cannot compare them as Ward has a higher ceiling.

I get on Ward harder than anyone else. However, I recognize his talent and upside. Unfortunealty he just isnt where we all thought he'd be. He'll get there. However, it may take near tournament time for us to see real results.

Good news, he did give us a few minutes of flash in last weeks games.

Speaking of which, is it the sweatsuit or has someone added about 50 lbs. since leaving VCU?

You move to that area of the Country and I assure you, the same will happen to you. I lived there 6 months and gained a solid 20. The cuisine is that good and there is plenty of it everywhere you go.

I love the comments from Vince in the postgame presser about how hard he and Ace have been on Hason, especially about going straight up and shooting over people. I'm glad they have the same faith in him I've had.

The less Hason thinks with the ball in his hands and just makes instinctive plays the better he is. Last night those first 3 bunnies in the paint is exactly what he needs to be doing the rest of the year. Hopefully this is something he can build off and the coaches put last nights game film on replay for him everyday.

I like that he actually stated Ace is "always on" Ward to go straight up. Having the guy who feeds you. the ball get in your butt when you are not doing the right thing helps. You know he of all people want you to do well because you success benefits him as well.

Ward finishes at the rim, Ace gets 2-3 more easy assists per game.

Correct you hit the bunnies, and then that little curl hook he has starts to fall.
