It is interesting that Hason chose to go to Iowa State. Otzelberger came back from UNLV but they lost about 6 scholarship players due to the coaching change. Next year will most likely be a struggle for the Cyclones.

Probably means they could promise him more if that's true. Also if I was trying for the NBA I might try to be the best player on a bad power conference team, there are worse ideas. Pick up a lot of garbage time stats and get featured in the offense more.

The level of competition will also go up significantly. Ward was not one of the top players in the A-10 like MSS was when he left VCU. Now he goes up against the likes of Kansas, Baylor, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Ward is three dimensional. He can block shots, dunk and foul. He has no outside shot. We'll see how that translates to the Big 12. And if he is the best player on a bad P5 team, who do you think the other teams are going to focus on when they play Iowa State?

Ward "had/has" the potential........if only he was coached.......

Did you watch him play this year? Ward had no "motor". That's on him, not the coaching staff. My guess is DeLoach and Fermin were going to be too much competition for him at VCU. You've got to have more to your game than blocks, dunks and fouls. Ward has no outside game and he didn't even average 5 rebounds per game this last year.

Found this interesting article regarding the state of Iowa State basketball. Interesting that they have Hason Ward listed as "projected primary bench". So much for the grass being greener in Ames, Iowa.

"Projected starting lineup: G Gabe Kalscheur, G Jaren Holmes, G Jeremiah Williams, F Tre King, F Aljaz Kunc.

Projected primary bench: G Caleb Grill, F Robert Jones, F Hason Ward, G Tamin Lipsey."

Ward had the lowest mpg among starters last season. He might be coming off the bench at Iowa state but I don’t expect his minutes to be far from what he got here.

If you can go there and get your 17-20mpg while getting paid it’s an easy decision. If he was getting 30-35 minutes here it would be a different story.
