second, the same way I root for Rice, and UT-Chatt, and The Mount, ad Teddy and Justin and Lyles, etc
I'm on your team as well. I want the guy to do well as he is a Ram regardless of anything else. Also, he's a young guy and if he made a mistake or two I can forgive that as well.

Like you I root for Rice, the Mount, Teddy, Justin, plus Radford, Jarius, and Simmons. Also, root for any of our guys still playing professionally.

I am very happy to see SS doing well. Changing his coaching style, and doing a good job developing his bigs. He's grown a lot in his first year in the Big 12.

Cant put it any better than previously stated "Once a Ram always a Ram"

Interesting..

Shaka is the man, did so much for the university, but how great would it look for our school if we continue to prosper whilst he struggles at Texas a la Grant and Capel. Well he's certainly not struggling, and we are doing really well considering our off season. So I'll take that. I don't think I answered the question, but as much as I respect Shaka I wouldn't mind to see him crash and burn at Texas. Always time for him to rebound if he does. Just look at Grant and Capel

Also: I would love nothing more than to play them in the tournament win lose or draw

If it's on, I want them to win. I like Shaka and what he's about, and I like it when people doing things the right way succeed. But I'm not going out of my way to turn it on. Mostly because college basketball is only fun for me if I "know" (as much as we fans know them) and care about the guys on the team. If I don't know any of the players, I'll just switch over to a pro game.

I wish Shaka had left a little differently, but his impact on VCU was and continues to be immeasurable, so I'm happy to see him successful on a higher plane (and yes, being successful in the Big 12 is a different animal than being successful in the A-10).

And while I know some here like the whole "you can't be any good once you leave VCU" thing that seems to taint pretty much all the major coaching departures, I think it helps the program's perception if someone can make it big here, then continue their trajectory somewhere else.

I would like for him to do well, but there's some entertainment in their losses. I don't go out of my way to watch - sort of a "if Texas loses a game but no watches, does anyone care?" kinda deal.

Also, any Shaka press is going to be VCU press for the foreseeable future. He's currently the winningest coach in program history, so until WW goes to the Final Four Shaka will be linked to VCU in media talking points, just like Mo is perpetually getting looks from NFL scouts. There's a script these guys follow, and if it leads to free publicity for VCU I'm cool with it.

My "rooting" for Shaka Smart just barely tips the scales from "not caring at all" due to all he did for our program. If he has success in the Big XII, gets a good seed in the tournament, and can manage to make it out of the first weekend, good for him. Now if it looks like it's becoming a "VCU and Texas Bubble Teams" situation on Selection Sunday. I'll be singing a different tune. My eye still twitches every time he pops up on the TV, though.

I said this exact same thing to a buddy in email this morning.

I appreciate everything he did for VCU but I haven't watched any ut games this season. I just can't bring myself to care about Texas. Sure, I always liked who Shaka was on tv, but I'm just completely indifferent to his success or failure. I'm a typical apathetic young voter I guess.

I really don't have any reason to root against him. Yeah he left us but he is a good dude. He did nothing but good for this university.

I don't root for or against. If I see them on tv I'll check them out.

hadn't thought much about Shaka until I turned the game on with about 2 minutes left to go in the game.

I want a sooners fan to post a gif oh him jumping around acting a maniac and then Buddy's 3 pointer to shush him. I lol'd.

of course I root against him. Also really enjoyed Mr. Mack watching Shaka draw up the play because dude is not playing. love it
When they called the foul on Taylor he was upset and then he went wild. It was crazy. Ha! As far as watching UT goes I have seen lots of their games but I also watch college games every night of the week. If it is college basketball I am watching on the TV or ESPN3 on my laptop. College basketball season is my time to overload on my favorite sport. Then NBA when the college season is over then I go into a funk until I start going to VCU baseball games.

Here is my issue. Daniel Roose is from the county where I live and graduated High School from here. I know his family well. So, I have to root a tad for the horns as his family got to know Coach Wade and still pull for VCU. However, where SS is concerned; I'm ok pulling for him until I hear the announcers talk about how "dedicated he is to the players, always will be there for them, blah blah blah". Then, not so much.
