How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

You guys act like you can't be critical of the team/coach's performance and still support the team. I've been here since the JD Barnett years and I'm still here. I've been a donor, season ticket holder, been to both NIT and NCAA games. I was in the building when Maynor hit the shot against Duke and was in the Coliseum during Sonny Smith's nine win season.

I'm not directing this specifically at you and I'm not going to speak for others, but if anybody questions my support of the team because I discussed the need for changes if hypothetically we miss going to the dance again this year and if we continue to miss going in future years, quite frankly you can go kicks rocks. Raising legit concerns is not "throwing anyone under the bus" in my opinion. People can agree or disagree on points of view, and that's fine. That's what this forum is for.

Kudos to everyone who continued to have unconditional faith in MR after how last season ended, how this season began, and after some disappointing moments in previous years. I was with you for 5 years and one month until around last December. MR did a great job turning the season around, he absolutely got the job done (which is all that mattered to me) and I couldn't be more proud that he proved my lack of faith unwarranted. But I am getting a little sick of people acting like the concerns were unwarranted or premature and that anyone was "thrown under the bus." And yes, if we go through another period where we stink I'll be critical again...and still support the team.

Now, excuse me while I go back to being hyped about our NCAA match up against St. Mary's.
One simply cannot like this ^^^^^^^^ enough. Coaches, programs, and teams are all fair game for measured criticism.

I remember sitting in the Pollak building and yelling at the 84-85 team getting ready to play Alabama in the second game, for shaving their heads. You don't F with a streak, and shaving their heads was a bad karmic move !!

This team had a rocky start to the season, and much of the criticism was measured, and fair based on the W-L record 9 games in. It had nothing to do with not supporting the team or program.

I feel the criticism of this coach will sadly never end, it's human nature. I like the Dayton program, because I think they mirror us in a lot of ways. AG, just a few short years ago, had Dayton poised for a #1 seed in the NCAAT and a NPOY. Everyone knows the personal tragedy he has dealt with the past year. There are a lot of Dayton fans that want him gone.

Once the glow of what MR accomplished this season is gone, which will probably coincide with losing in a MTE and dropping a game to a Q4 that gets hot for a night, the "reasonable doubts" and "concerns" people will be back in force. I can almost see the posts now - "even the most strident MR supporters must admit he won the A10 in it's weakest year ever. Oh, don't get me wrong. I was very happy about it. It was just not that great an accomplishment." The haters are still here, just silent for now...they're waiting.

I think Rhoades has earned some leeway. Will I be upset if we lose next year? Most likely. Will i be disappointed when we drop games we shouldn’t? Yep. But regardless of how weak the A10 was he got the job in the regular season and tourney. The goal is NCAAs. We got there. Hopefully we win more since we are here but if not oh well. Only way I see major concerns starting again is if we completely crumble next year when honestly I think we’ll be the preseason #1. Yes we lose Shriver but we bring a lot of talent back and will likely add some. Of course we need to be looking to groom a guard to be Ace’s successor and need to find a big guy to fill for John’s as well one to be the successor for Deloach.

I think you nailed the script, but hopefully you will be feeling better about the team after today.

That year is going to haunt Dayton fans and program forever. I think it's part of the reason why their fans are so angry these days. They got blue balled of the highest order 😂

What troubles me is that some fans went overboard with their criticisms. To call for the HC's job in the middle of the season when no one was sure how it was end was imo reprehensible.

Yeah, I have been critical of Mike, still am but Ididnt suggest we throw the baby out with the bath water which if some of you can be honest with yourselves, would admit you did.

During this season, it seemed to me that some were just waiting for our guys to fail, in order to prove their point that Mike needed to go.
All I asked all year long was to wait and see, then discuss at seasons end. Some of you had your minds made up and couldn't let go.

Win after gut wrenching win, you waited, you kept on the well we wont get an At Large Bid, that was a bad loss blah, blah, blah. Instead you could have stated, you are with us and the HC until the seasons ended you didnt. It wasnt cool, and now your denials and justifications arent cool either.

It doesnt matter how long you have watched games, donated, etc. real fans dont cut and run at the first time things look bleak. Real fans, dont panic, and dont think the sky is falling. Real fans, give the team a chance. Also, when real fans have an error in judgment they admit and let it go.

Heck even now some of you state that after the SMC game all your criticism was warranted, it wasnt.

Finally, this team could have fallen apart and ended up .500 plus. Real fans would've still supported the guys if not the HC, until the end of the season.

Yeah, it's like some folks think if they keep saying the same inaccurate information often enough it magically becomes true.
Yep I’m done with it. I’d rather go over to another non basketball related forum for awhile where everyone is civil to each other and doesn’t wish death on each other then listen to fake information. Had 4 years to listen to that if I wanted to. Not gonna listen it on a college basketball forum in the off-season.

They say, it's not how you start but how you finish. Yes, disappointed in the result against St. Mary's but we won the regular season, conference tournament and made the NCAA Tournament.

I want to start winning NCAA Tournament games, make Sweet Sixteen and Elite 8's consistently. But I saw growth and development.

We need to be better in the early part of the season and win some games.

Headed in a good direction!
