I know many of you would like the hometown kid to come home but I'm just not sure he would benefit our program.....based on his stats. He is averaging about 8 mpg and 1.6 ppg. He has had some longer games....upto 19 minutes but his point total remains very low. Also, his rebound numbers are also pretty low. I just don't see him being a strong replacement for Brandon.....although, I will admit, Brandon's stats weren't exciting either. But I think the situations were different between the two with Johns having 4 years and starter experience several times.
Serious question - What makes some of you believe he would benefit our program next fall?
Only seen them play a couple of times. One he hardly played, the other he had 15 or so minutes. They ran very little offense in which he would have a chance for a shot other than an offensive rebound. He got one offensive rebound went up and was fouled but it wasn't called. The rest of the time he was setting picks, made a few good rolls to the basket but no one passed him the ball.
He's big, mobile, runs the court really well, plays good defense. Guy went to Ville with a ton of potential, seems it hasn't been developed at all and the new staff has no plan for him.
I don't know how he would do here.
We have one high school recruit in the fold, seem to be on another pretty hard and that one fills a need too. Have to think someone will leave and there will be room for at least one more.
We have tried and tried to get some of these local bigs to come here. It would be hard for me, if I was the coach (of course I'm not, a good thing) to turn him down if he wanted to come to VCU.
I love JJ and think Fermin has a lot of potential. Wheeler has more potential than either one. Would coming here give him a chance to reach that potential? I don't know, if the staff thinks so, they might jump at the chance if they get it.
