Recruiting I for one am glad we didn't sign another freshman

Quick question for those that know. Is it against the "rules" to ever tweet and have the players twitter handle in the tweet? Or only can make mention of the their name, not their twitter handle?

Louisville just added a freshman big man from the NBA Africa program. Probably over for Wheeler.

Can someone share how the player from the NBA Africa program joins a college roster now and immediately eligible to play for the remainder of the season? Did Louisville have an open scholarship?

I know many of you would like the hometown kid to come home but I'm just not sure he would benefit our program.....based on his stats. He is averaging about 8 mpg and 1.6 ppg. He has had some longer games....upto 19 minutes but his point total remains very low. Also, his rebound numbers are also pretty low. I just don't see him being a strong replacement for Brandon.....although, I will admit, Brandon's stats weren't exciting either. But I think the situations were different between the two with Johns having 4 years and starter experience several times.
Serious question - What makes some of you believe he would benefit our program next fall?

Without even seeing him really play, I disagree. VCU gets up and down, and I believe our training is what prepares us for that. If he came home, he would get in insane shape and would be dominant....assuming he has the right mindset.

Only seen them play a couple of times. One he hardly played, the other he had 15 or so minutes. They ran very little offense in which he would have a chance for a shot other than an offensive rebound. He got one offensive rebound went up and was fouled but it wasn't called. The rest of the time he was setting picks, made a few good rolls to the basket but no one passed him the ball.
He's big, mobile, runs the court really well, plays good defense. Guy went to Ville with a ton of potential, seems it hasn't been developed at all and the new staff has no plan for him.
I don't know how he would do here.
We have one high school recruit in the fold, seem to be on another pretty hard and that one fills a need too. Have to think someone will leave and there will be room for at least one more.
We have tried and tried to get some of these local bigs to come here. It would be hard for me, if I was the coach (of course I'm not, a good thing) to turn him down if he wanted to come to VCU.
I love JJ and think Fermin has a lot of potential. Wheeler has more potential than either one. Would coming here give him a chance to reach that potential? I don't know, if the staff thinks so, they might jump at the chance if they get it.

I wonder if this falls into Wade's "you build a team not a program" mantra? It seems The 'Ville built a team, although it's not a very good one, and he just didn't fit in. I expect The 'Ville goes back to the portal and reloads with all new faces. Developing Wheeler is probably not in the cards (no pun intended, but it's a good one).

I think Rosie is kind of "broken" at this point....not permanently, but his first 2 years at Louisville have been pretty awful. Just based on what I saw on tape back in his HS days, coupled with his serious physical gifts?? AND throw in the fact that the A10 is bereft of any serious physically gifted players?? Mike Rhoades and Staff would be insanely foolish not to look into bringing him home.

No guarantees, obviously....Dude would have to work his A$$ off before the season hits. Not sure what Louisville's conditioning program is or whether he is participating to his fullest...but between conditioning and fully committing to VCU's Defensive schemes??

Well, that's the rub with ANY player comin in....

If Roosevelt Wheeler came to VCU with the "buy in", effort, and focus of a Levi Stockard?? With his size and ability? He would be right back in the basketball limelight and back into NBA conversations.

Not for nothin, but there were rumors about what his mom and her "asks" for RW....that's all ancient history now, with NIL....but VCU would kind of have to offer something.

if his mindset was getting rebounds/blocking shots/defense his ceiling would be much higher.

Totally agree. Now Efton Reid would be another story. That being said I think we would benefit most by having another PF-4 type. JJ is looking more and more like he’s going to have a hold on the starting C position.
