I think this is a good move for MBJ, as I noted earlier in this thread. He will be a load in SoCon and have a chance to shine. Go Spartans!

I can't post a tweet because he blocked me, but MBJ transferring to UNCG. It's a really good fit for him (telling him this was what made him block me), I just hope he doesn't treat the fans in Greensboro the way he treated the fans here.
Considering the comments posted by some VCU Ram fans ( not on this forum) concerning the team photo at the Lee monument, I’m not sure we need to be passing judgement on comments MBJ made. UNCG is a fresh start for him and I wish him well

Don't fool yourself, been far more drama in the last few years that involve more than ice cream sandwiches, believe me.

Thats my point. We’ve had significant team drama over the last 4 years. More than we had under Shaka or Wade. Yes 2018 was really bad but it’s been noticeable across Rhoades’s tenure. I’m not saying he has any part of it. It just seems like we’ve had more issues than other eras. That whole “Ramily” thing we talk about doesn’t seem the same the last 4 years.

Did he replace Buckingham?
Buck was a wing. MBJ is a smaller post player. He cant replace Buck but hey he made on heck of a decision. Very happy for him and Mike Jones.

I hope he will put in the work and dominate the SoCon. Also I hope he doesnt get very good and decide to leave. Make a home out of UNCG and turn up young fella.

I’m sure there were some internal situations to deal with, but I feel the Coaching staff from Rhoades down is perfectly capable of handling that internally. I think the more “troubling” issues have come from outside the team and in some ways, not necessarily in MJB’ case, has helped the team come together. I believe between adding 3 solid transfers who meet immediate needs, three talented freshmen who are absolutely stoked to prove they can contribute and two proven assets itching to get back on the floor, this team has the ability to come together and achieve great things. The past is the past and I am doing nothing but looking forward to better days.

It does seem like these Rhoades teams have some really weird behind the scenes drama - more so than in previous years.

Certainly the different transfer rules probably lead to some of it. Would love to be a fly on the wall for some of the team meetings.

Yeah there's been way more drama since Shaka left. I mean you even had the Weber cell phone situation under shaka as well as the other stuff you guys mentioned.... as well as the summer after Shaka left.... the Mo Alie Cox situation...... which I think pretty much all of us knew was a bunch of BS.

I'm sorry but I gotta disagree with your statement that I bolded... BIG TIME.

While there absolutely has been issues/drama out side of the players themselves.... like family members getting into it with fans on message boards... or being overly criticial of our staff... and its been multiple players... not just 1.

There has been a LOT of drama created or escalated by the players themselves.
1. Evans getting into arguments with fans on Twitter at 1:30 or w/e in the morning on the night of a game?
2. Whatever the Tre Clark situation was that led to him being kicked off the team & outta school.
3. February 2020... and that giant clusterf**k that was. WAY worse than our 2011 Final 4 month of February... NOT EVEN CLOSE. Not to mention DJ leaving the team with several games left (but still showing up at Senior Night)...

And that's not even factoring in any of the stuff that's happened this off season or since the Transfer Portal became what it is now.

So, sorry not sorry but our players have caused just as much of this drama if not more. And certainly WAY MORE than any of our prior teams.... even under Wade. The players under Wade came together more cause I think the majority of them despised Wade. So that brought them closer together.

But prior to Wade, even with the mishaps that were mentioned before with Larry, Lance, Briante.... and others.... those teams under Shaka & Grant were WAY WAY WAY more unified from Top to bottom... including the walkons (specially guys like Hinton & Burston who are just all around great people)

the Transfer portal certainly did not help matters... but it's far from the reason there's drama been going on. MSS & Mobley both transferred before the portal is what it is now. MBJ likely would prob still be gone because he's looking for a bigger role.

And most of the situations I mentioned above were prior to the transfer portal becoming what it is now.

Will Wade wasn't here long enough for us to see all of the warts he created.

I’ll give you that but regardless if going by Shaka’s and Grant’s times there’s been lots more team drama. Also when there was team drama it involved like some stupid incident where the player might might a game for team conduct expectations. It wasn’t players getting into it with fans online, families trashing coaches, players suddenly dropping out of team for unknown reasons, etc. I mean I remember Heath under Shaka but that was for health and he got an academic scholarship to finish. Like some mentioned transfer portal probably plays a part but that was very recent. That doesn’t cover times before that. Now we’re having like Coach L level Mason level drama but it’s different more than other tenures combined.

I consider you one of the strongest supporters of VCU athletics and have no desire to argue with you. My point was not there are no problems with the players, but rather there have been other issues that you might not be aware of also. Either way, rehashing negative things about our program does no one any good, and I think the place we are in now is the best its been in a while. Peace, and lets enjoy next years ride.

Shaka Smart had Toby Veal, Terrance Shannon, Larry Sanders and Terry Larrier to deal with. Wade had Samir Doughty to deal with, although he was dismissed shortly after Mike Rhoades got the VCU job and never played for Rhoades. Ahmed Hamdy-Mohamed also had his issues under Wade. Vann and Jenkins were Will Wade recruits. And both Wade and Smart did not have to deal with COVID and the new transfer rules while at VCU.
