In the new and not necessarily improved world of NCAA with free agency NIL and P5's dropping non conference games, what happened even 5 years ago no longer applies so we might as well skip talking about the good old days.
That means no more building the program, you rebuild the team every year. Of course some guys will hang around but the top tier and the bottom tier will not.
Its nothing personal, its just business.
The coaches who can navigate this process will prosper. So judging talent is more important than ever.
Money can make or break the deal. We, and I expect a great many other mid majors, don't really know how to make this work. It likely won't help that the NCAA is realizing they don't know how to manage it either.
The bright side is we are not alone but we need to figure it out if we hope to remain in the mid of majors.

Recruits have been asking for(and receiving) this stuff for ages. Not it's just in the open.

You either will pay or get left behind.
When it was under the table, the teams had leverage to keep payrolls low.
It appears* some of the more extreme NIL schemes are going to be dealt with.

*It's the NCAA so I'll believe it when I see it.
I'll believe it the same time you do.

Honestly, its a waiting game and not one that we will have to wait too long on. No one is giving NIL money out of the goodness of their heart. Companies are doing it out of there marketing budget(Still think the A/C company signing Decoldest Crawford is the best one) and if they don't get customers, they will revert to more traditional advertising. The Alumni groups throwing large sums of money again are not doing it because they "like" the kids. As harsh as it sounds, they are just looking to "buy" kids and once they don't get the return on there money they hoped for, that money will go elsewhere. The current Wild Wild West of NIL is not sustainable in any world

There needs to be some sort of cap or some sort of regulation on the NIL. I’m all for players earning money but there has to be a way to regulate it. Same with the transfer portal.
