I mean, if you want to slant it that way, sure I guess you could say that. Doc Nix is also a faculty member in George Mason’s music department, so at least he’s professionally qualified to lead a group of student musicians. He also never labeled himself “The Total Package” either...

When you're an associate professor with 10 years at that rank to your name you can do those kinds of things.

Notably, the position VCU is hiring for is also an associate professor-level position, although it does not require a doctoral degree (it is preferred, however).

So, as a few others pointed out, this appeared on the VCU job posting site:


It appears the band director position is going to become a full-time (but temporary) professor-rank faculty position with more integration between VCU Athletics and the Department of Music, similarly to how Mason does it. It will involve teaching classes, as well. As I figured would be the case, it requires a master's degree or higher in music. It seems like it would be win-win.

Yes, this means a certain someone is not qualified for this position.
