This would be the death knell for mid-major basketball. Kids like Bones or Hyunjung Lee for Davidson could just up and transfer to Duke or UNC without sitting a year. Whether or not this is good for the kids, let's remove all doubt that this is all about consolidation of power in college basketball. The power conferences want the ability to compete for Final Fours/Sweet 16's/at-large bids to be exclusive to them.

Remember, the Power 5 conferences have 50%+1 voting power. If all of them vote for the proposal and the rest of the 200 something schools vote against it, it passes.

It hurts the lessor conferences whose kids will shift ip to mid major when they demonstrate profiency. Like our young Mr Vann.
All it really does is save schools a year of wasted scholarship. The kids are already walking.

there's no wasted year of eligibility. They still have the same amount of time to play college basketball, they're just set back already. And if you think kids are walking now, hoo boy. Just wait til this passes.

Works both ways - the kid that made the wrong decision and is sitting at Duke or Kentucky or Florida but a 4 star can transfer to a mid major too!! We got two transfers on our roster that start but had to sit a year (Vann and Evans).
Also we can get kids from lower D1s to immediately fill holes (would have been nice to have a true back up point guard or a power forward 6'9" with some beef this year)
we are a top 50 program so would view this as a positive
go rams

yes, but on the whole, we lose. Let's say a kid like Bones leaves and we fill that scholly with a xfer player like Vann. No disrespect to IV but that's a net negative even though he's a quality player.

But its happening now anyway. The kids are ok sitting a year as its not cisting them money. The schoo km s are just vcc.c trying to save a buck.

It seems like the big winners would be the top programs of the top conferences. I would think this would be tough even for some of the lesser P5s like a Wake or even somewhere like Clemson

This basically turns non-power conferences into the Power 5 D-League.
That was my thought exactly. all non P5 conferences just become a developmental league and if you "prove yourself" there maybe you will receive the honor of getting called up to the big leagues. complete and total bullpoop.
