VCU (14-5; 5-1 A10) has now won nine of its last ten games as the Rams powered past the Minutemen of UMASS, 83-55.
Through 15 minutes of the first half, the game had largely been a back-and-forth battle with the Minutemen holding onto a 2 point lead.
But, a 9-0 Rams run—extending to an 11-0 run after the first basket of the second half—opened up the game for the VCU defense to take hold.
Over the first 10 minutes of the second half, VCU held UMASS to just three field goals from the floor. The Minutemen would finish the second half with only 6 made field goals—none from range as they couldn’t connect on any of their 11 attempts.
UMASS finished the night shooting just 29% from the floor, 16% from three, and 65% on 13-20 free throw attempts.
The Rams also rattled off a 12-2 run during a five minute stretch to push their lead out to 20 points at the under-12 timeout.
VCU finished the night with 53% shooting overall, 50% from range, and 76% from the stripe.
