Continue reading...Marcus Evans, and #20 VCU, proved to be too much for the visiting Hornets from Alabama State as the Rams remain undefeated.
The win tonight secured the first 6-0 start in program history for VCU.
Evans scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the first half of action for the Rams—including scoring 8 of the final 10 points for the Rams before intermission.
The Senior guard hit back-to-back threes in the final two minutes of the first half and then hit one more three before being fouled on his next attempt from long range—he made all three free throws.
Overall, Evans shot 8-11 from the floor for 73% while also connecting on 5-7 on shots from deep.
Alabama State jumped out to an early lead, and led by as many as five points, before the first media timeout.
But, a three-pointer from Mike’L Simms (9pts, 3reb) put the Rams ahead 23-21 with 8:20 left to play in the first half. The Hornets would get no closer than that mark for the remainder of the game.
