In their first, and only, exhibition game of the 2019-2020 season, VCU was just too much for visiting VSU as the Rams seized a commanding victory, 90-53.
Despite having a bunch of new faces for VCU, the Rams relied on their bench to contribute 51 points, more than half their overall score.
Freshman, Bones Hyland, impressed in his relief minutes for Senior point guard, Marcus Evans. Hyland managed a +25 production stat on the box score. The freshman guard led all newcomers with 9 points, and co-led the team with 3 assists—Vince Williams and Malik Crowfield also had 3 assist.
The Rams held the Trojans to only 5 field goals in the first half—accounting for just slightly over half their total points at intermission. The remaining nine VSU points came from the free throw line where they shot 7-8 in the first 20 minutes.
One thing that can be counted on, year in and year out, is VCU’s defense—tonight was no exception. The Rams turned over the Trojans 24 times in 40 minutes of action...

It wasn't long ago we were freaking out about losing to Queens. Sounds like we had a good showing with room for improvement. Sounds great to me and at this stage all teams are going to show some signs of rust. Excited it's bball time again in the RVA.
