It’s inexcusable for the broadcast quality to be so poor. It is a reflection of our school and our athletic department. I watch the UR broadcasts (I’m not a spider sympathizer) and just wish ours was that good. As a season ticket holder/donor I wish some of the funds would go to improving this part of our program. It would pay dividends if the folks in the AD’s office “got it”.

fur has Bob Black, so I couldn't tell you how good or bad their audio is. 🤣
They have professional camera operators shooting the games that work for ESPN,, CBS, etc as freelancers. I am friends with several and they say that UR is head and shoulders above VCU when it comes to the in-house broadcast. Their equipment works and they strive to make sure everything is in working order. Typically good productions have crew calls. Communication before and after is important but at VCU it is kind of show up and do it. It falls in the lap of the production manager to make sure everything is the best it can be.

Kind of sad for a school with a mass comm. department. You'd think they'd want to come off looking great on these broadcasts as a way to promote that.

Eh, I majored in Mass Comm and took classes in the basement of the Franklin Street Gym. Most of my experience came from working all four years at WWBT. Ha!

Speaking of issues....the end wide screen stat boards were killing me last night. I use them to follow the game and due to horrible wifi I could not access my phone to follow the box score. Nothing was working last night to keep me informed of the game time stats. Bothered me quite a bit because that is part of how I follow a game.

That drove me nuts. They finally fixed it with about 3 minutes left and it sure looked like they just needed to reset the display.

This is going to be rather esoteric, but the stats program appears to have corrupted the XML file that it generates and sends to the stat boards. Really odd and not something we've seen before. We're looking further into it today. No, it was not as simple as turning it off and back on.

Just replace them with a manual stat scoreboard. I will update it during the game.

This seems like the right thread for this...

I enjoy Tom McCarthy as a broadcaster/color guy....He's been doing Phillies games for years, so I'm pretty familiar with his work.

All he is...is solid...and he's only solid all the time....plus, I'd be stunned if anyone in the industry had a bad word to say about the guy. I hope he does more VCU games.

I have strong feelings for Tom McCarthy....sorry, not sorry :lol::lol:

He has done quite a few VCU games on CBSSN. He usually is the lead commentator for VCU games on CBSSN. I also enjoy listening to him on TV broadcasts.

Tom is great. As of right now he's only scheduled for one more of our games.

Indeed. I think they should add scoreboards in the 4 corners of the Stu. Just saying, Banks hit a shot and I was wondering why he wasn't listed as a player in the line-up at that time, then noticed that we were stuck in time for the rest of the night.
