You’re the man @Mistachill
Thank you for posting the game. Two observations from the last 8.4 seconds of the game.
1 - when Davidison breaks from the timeout, watch JJ go over and look the play drawn up on the board by Coach Mckillop's. That is really quite slick.
2 - Nick Kerns did not foul Watson at all. He did not body him and his hand is on the ball. A clean block.

I think he hit hand which is part of the ball. Kern went up straight. Oh well we won. Great game.
yea, he got the hand after he had already made contact with the ball and blocked the shot.. so at that point the hand contact was okay... like you said hand part of ball

we always get a rough whistle at Davidson tho - kudos to the kids for not losing their sh1t

that steal from Ace at the end of the first half... Ace got to the ball first and dude knocked him to the ground - that should have been an easy layup or a foul... if the roles were reversed Im sure the ref woulda called a clear path foul on us lol... but Ace kept his composure

Prior to the game, if you had said...

"Hey, the Rams are gonna go 0'fer from 3 and shoot FT's below a 70% and those lame-a$$ speedo boys are gonna be dry humping each other gleefully and with verve"

I would have girded my loins for disappointment and awaited the rain of fire on this site....luckily, all is well :D

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure a traveling call is not a reviewable play. Refs do not have to call a foul to go look at replay to see if there was a flagrant 1 or 2 committed. I thought they went to go look at replay to see if it was a flagrant 1 or 2. They deemed it wasn't and stuck with the traveling call.
You are correct. Referees don’t pause play to review a traveling call. It’s only for possible flagrants. Even if they see the missed common foul during the review, they can’t then call it based on replay. They missed it live.

And I think we also got a “make-up” call shortly thereafter
Yep. I watched that play a couple times. Appeared as if Nick flew backwards hoping to get that exact call. Watkins did not even use his off arm on that play. Crazy how games come down to plays like that. The last 2 minutes were filled with calls that went one way or the other.

I don't think it's a coincidence our win streak coincided with Shriver going unconscious.

If him or Ace aren't hitting from three we are in big trouble. I just don't see how we can win at a high level shooting 0% from three. I mean we pulled it off today, but still it took Mennenga missing an absolute bunny and another player choking the game tying FT. These past two games we have been sub zero from three and it resulted in a loss and a near loss.

Been a pretty rollercoaster season so to make any statement definitive would be silly, but my judgment thus far says we have some really nice pieces and we play solid defense. We have improved offensively, but I just don't think it's good enough to really get us where we want to be.

It was a good hard fought win, glad we pulled it out. But did anybody else get severe VCUPTSD during that one play? How many chances at the rim did we get on that one? And you know exactly what play I'm talking about. At that moment it definitely felt like old school VCU and maybe well be okay after all lol.
That one play was really something. I don't recall witnessing that many attempts / exchanges.

This is correct. They weren’t looking at the traveling call. They were seeing if a flagrant was warranted. They decided it was not. A foul call does not have to occur to review a potential flagrant.

For the record, a flagrant 1 should have been awarded. 2 shots and the ball.

I love Kern trying to take charges but sometimes he tends to fall backwards before there's contact and if the ref notices that they are going to call it a block like they did on him earlier in the game.

a tale of two last second jump shots…
Ace misses against the Bonnie’s and the Rams played horrible and the coaching was suspect ,kids not ready to play.
Ace makes against Davidson and it’s a tough grind it out, never quit ,played hard and found a way to win

amazing the power of one shot

I hope our win was not downplayed with the absence of Loyer for Davidson. Obviously someone fills his spot but he is their floor leader. We beat the snot out of them even with him playing, albeit at the STU. We had ACE out for a while as everyone knows so you have to adjust.

Well, one was a win and one was a loss and both were difficult to watch.
