Yep. I watched that play a couple times. Appeared as if Nick flew backwards hoping to get that exact call. Watkins did not even use his off arm on that play. Crazy how games come down to plays like that. The last 2 minutes were filled with calls that went one way or the other.
You don't have to use your off arm if you run into some who is in legal guarding position. Nick definitely sold it though.

Davidson is barely sniffing 2000 students. Their current enrollment is 1927. I haven't visited Ashland in a while, but I think Davidson NC is a bit more upscale than Ashland.
It's right by Lake Norman, becoming suburban Charlotte, certainly close enough to draw Charlotte metro area fans. Yeah, but a small alumni base compared to us. They'll be okay if they start winning some more. We'll see how Jr. works out.

"The Davidson defender makes a quick move to punch at the ball to knock it loose. " --> The hand is not close to the Ball which JD has around his waist. There is at least 2 feet from his closed hand to the ball. Watch it again and stop it when his hand hits JD's face. Look where the ball is. It was not an attempt punch the ball lose.

I was fixed on the "JD" in your post. All I could think of was throwing up in a towel.

Wrong JD I know but..

Davidson is a picturesque little southern college town sitting right on the shores of lake Norman. Your assessment is correct it is more upscale than Ashland except for this rogue group of scantly dressed young men seen running about after hours wailing about how they did their best “love canoe” and still couldn’t completely rattle those Dammn Rams. I understand authorities are still trying to get to the bottom of this visually disturbing matter.

I have not questioned that it was a flagrant foul. I am stating that there is no way he was trying to punch the ball loose. There is 2-3 feet between the hand and ball the video clearly shows that. - We need to get St. louis in foul trouble, it does not appear their bench is deep. We have to do better from 3 too. Have a good day.
Does the player who fouled DeLoach have a history of dirty play?

And the fact his closed fist wasn't going anywhere near the ball.
in slow motion, watch live and when playing you reach either to where it was or where you think it is going. Pause a second: Be honest, what do you think his intent was? Do you think he was trying to punch JDL for no reason at that point of the game and not just risk losing the game for his team but getting his ass kicked? No. He was trying to make a play and dislodge the ball. My interpretation is the same that 3 officials walked away with and likely they went through this thought process. Like all VCU fans, it looks awful and unfair due to the walk. The officials had not choice on anything but judging if flagrant or not. Nobody has to like it or accept it, we can all celebrate that it miraculously didn't cost us the game and likewise JDL showed just enough restraint not to get T's up himself. (Don't get too caught up in the fist piece as that is not unusual as you go to punch a ball from a rebounder's hands)

I think way too much time has been wasted on this and not the good plays we made as a team or the great final shot by Ace or the stop by JDL!!!

Next up SLU. JUST WIN!!

Hopefully he never gets into boxing.
At least in boxing you're expecting that someone is trying to hit you inn the face and you're trying to avoid it. Not so much in basketball. But get your point. Did a little back yard boxing when I was younger (a lot younger). I would never have made a good boxer either. Didn't take that much of a punch to put me down.

I won't speculate on his intent. If he was trying to get the ball, he did a very poor job of it. I don't buy the argument of where you think the ball is going to be either. He thought JJ was going to pick the ball up in front of his face so he could take it from him?

Can you imagine if that was Moe with the ball as opposed to JJ. Moe would have stopped, smiled, and then knocked the guy 4 rows deep.

Ok, I know Moe wouldn’t have clobbered him, but ya gotta admit it was fun to let your imagination take you there if only for a few seconds….. “POW… Clobbering Time!” LOL
