The Official Beat The Illinois Fighting Illini in Miami, FL Thread

Personally, I don't buy into the line that we gotta put 20 pounds on every kid that comes here from high school. There are plenty of awesome hoopers out there that are bean poles. Too much muscle can make you tight and eff up your jump shot. Too much bulk can slow one down, affect quickness and cause one to tire easily. Do they need to work out? Absolutely. Do they need to bulk up? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the role the player plays. A shooter, slasher, scorer off the wing doesn't need to be bulky IMHO.

Petway or Pettaway, whatever his name was back in the day. I always thought that was his biggest issue, mussel bound.

Doughty played 27 minutes against Illinois. I can't see how you can play him any more than that. Regarding Jenkins, he is going to be really good, but at 185 lbs., he's going to get manhandled against teams like Baylor and Illinois. Once he adds another 20 lbs., it a different story.

The Rams shot well tonight. However, sloppy play generally, specifically by Hamdi, some no-call walks by the ACC refs, a half court shot by GT and a no sense of urgency for a full 40 minutes lost this game. This is not the Ram team from the '11 run. Wade needs to kick some butt and get the chemistry corrected to move on. If the Rams lose to ODU the I will officially state that this is a bad ball club. Conference play will be a constant struggle this year. Look at GMU so far.

You guys sum it up nicely. Brooks and Burgess are too inconsistent and don't contribute points for long stretches. Burgess will show enough at times for you to think he will be big time, but then he goes into a funk again.

Brooks has never impressed me. If he isn't a big contributor by now, he never will be, and should be relegated to the bottom of the bench.

It is time to play guys like Jenkins, Doughty, and Crowfield a lot more. VCU need to find the next generation fo perimeter players and that won't happen by sticking with some upperclassmen who never panned out.
