Yes, and Tates, in a strange kind of way, figured heavily into VCU's success ... Calvin Duncan first committed to Jacksonville but changed his mind when Locke was fired/resigned after 80-81 season (8-19) ... Calvin opted for VCU and the Rams went on a tremendous four-year run (81-85) under Barnett.

Can you imagine if JD’s teams had the turnovers we experience routinely now? Not only would he thrown up before the game (which he did from pregame intensity), he’d likely bench most of the starters. He demanded valuing each possession.

He also had kids who stayed in his program 4 years... team work..... they had it.

I remember James Ray. Really thought he would be a very good NBA player but it didn't happen.
