I know people want to blame Mike's coaching ability for the latest loss. However, has anyone considered that Ace had his first bad game of the year and Jamir too laid an egg, plus Deloach didnt play a minute.
Yep. That did happen. Ace had a bad shooting night. He had some steals and assists. His assists would have been close to 10 if guys could shoot.

yup - another point I would make is MR needs to rethink his pick n roll combos -
in the majority of situations the picker is not someone that creates fear in the opponents (JJ , Fermin or Tobi , specifically) (think of the guys in prior years Ward, Douglass etc that had no real business in pick n rolls IMHO)

think about the Nuggets pick n roll with Murray and Jokic - that creates real FEAR because both can score at all levels

NBA teams also create better angles for the pick n roll to make the pass to the cutter by spreading the floor with actual shooters that can hit the open 3 or move the ball like it is HOT (Yeah I cringed when I wrote that)

right now I would solely run the pick n roll with Brandon Johns, (good footwork and ability to finish at rim or get fouled - nice looking jumper but question whether he should have green light with 3, based upon results for first 9 games

I would love to see some analytics on VCU pick n roll success vs other teams success (like points per Pick n roll etc) (maybe I am cray cray with this thought)

go Rams

Unfortunately VCU's bigs are not very good at pick and rolls, passing finding space or kicking the ball back out. Lawal seems to be the best at pick and rolls right now.

Y’all remember the pick and roll with JeQuan and Mo? That thing was money.

Too advanced for our offensive scheme apparently
If you watch they do try it but the bigs do no aggressively get to the defender to plant their feet. Lawal seems to almost have it figured out.

And they lost to UAB (who is admittedly good) by 20--we're their outlier
or... maybe we are not.
They had a goodish game, we played about the same as usual this season (Johns had a goodish night).
And they payed 7 guys and an 8th for 3 minutes. So much for deep.

I think we have to factor that into our evaluation of these guys. We are working on a think margin. That's a fact but look we have an injured AB and we still have a chance. In conference will now be more critical but hey that's just VCU. Grant's team dominated conference play but really none of the rest of our teams have.

Have we been ultra competitive? Yes, but we haven't had any HC's other than Grant dominate. I state this to say, yes Mike has to figure somethings out. No, the guys dont whip butt they way, Id like. However, it has always been about in Conference play for VCU and ever other team in the A10.

Look all we can do is play with what we have, get a little momentum and buckle up for the in conference play.

@rollins77 - Not to be picky, but to be picky. Please have someone proof read the two page programs before they go to the publisher. Last night's program showed VCU and Jacksonville as never playing prior to last night under the "Matchup History" section. That is so far from being true. Both VCU and Jacksonville were in the Sun Belt Conference together during the JD Barnett years. Prior to last night's game, VCU's series record against Jacksonville was 19-8 with the last VCU win and meeting being January 28, 1991. All of that information and the series game by game history is in the men's basketball record book on the VCU basketball web site.
The game programs are produced fully by our Learfield partners. I no longer have any involvement, nor do I see them prior to publishing, but I can certainly mention it. Apologies.
