If you read up on both nicknames you will see they both came about due to real people. A coach was said to resemble the Billiken doll and a pitcher for UR was said to throw like a spider or something like that.
Thanks for the info. I should do my homework / research before posting. Most of you are more informed / knowledgeable than I! Hey it's game day. GO RAMS!! -3 underdog . . . . . but I relish the underdog role (and add mustard / catsup accordingly). Let's hope for a good one 2 nite.

I believe it is a mischievous , impish type of character. A Lucky Charms kinda guy. I'm still scratching my head as to why UR came up with a spider mascot. Not much thought went into that selection, apparently.

I kind of feel that way about Rams for us....Does Richmond have a history of dealing in sheep and whatnot? Green Devils was so much cooler...sigh

I wouldn't say hammering slu.... line only moved half a point and usually the public takes the favorite. 78% of the tickets are on slu but I don't know where the money is.
lol... ok, well whatever you want to call it - ppl are betting slu more than vcu causing the line go up

Yes, indeedy providing we don't go comatose for the next 8
We have two guys we need to take off their game somewhat and the rest will fall in place nicely. Jimmerson must be neutralized (i.e. minimized because he's going to get his). He'll face a barrage of good defenders for the entire game. If Fordham can own them I would think we can do the same.

Get a good 12 minutes and everything will fall into place.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the spider nickname is kind of cool. It's unique without being goofy, unlike the Campbell Camels or the UC Banana Slugs.
