The Gaels name
From the Gaels website:

"The Gaels are an ethno-linguistic group which spread from Ireland to Scotland and the Isle of Man. Their language is of the Gaelic (Goidelic) family, a division of Insular Celtic languages. The word in English was adopted in 1810 from Scottish Gaelic Gaidheal (compare Irish Gaedhealg and Old Irish Goídeleg) to designate a Highlander (OED). Gael or Goídeleg was first used as a collective term to describe people from Ireland; it is thought to have come from Welsh Gwyddel (Old Welsh Goídel), originally "raider", now "Irish person". Many people who do not speak Gaelic consider themselves to be 'Gaels' in a broader sense because of their ancestry and heritage."

The nickname was given to the school's football team (now discontinued) in 1926 by Pat Frayne, a writer for the now defunct San Francisco Call-Bulletin.[4] The school's previous nickname was the Saints, although the baseball team was known as the Phoenix until the 1940s.

"I think it's a favorable draw for you guys. Not because of athleticism, but because of your coach and the thing your guys have that the other team doesn't. The stuff between the ears. Your guys move the ball so efficiently and intelligently, you'll have VCU talking to themselves by halftime."

It's so cute how he thinks that the Gaels will automatically be the more cerebral team. We have Mo, a gentleman and a scholar. We have Doug Brooks, who was heady enough to know to track down that security guard and grab the ball up in Olean when everyone else was hanging their heads. We have "The General" JeQuan Lewis, who perfectly executed the "Hole in One". We also have a true basketball mad scientist in Will Wade. Their coach has "stuff between the ears"? Yeah, OK. Talk to me after Thursday, chief.

They are fur to the extreme. The whole town is a gated community. It is one of the top 10 most affluent places per capita in the US I believe. Expect them to pull the edjumication card early and often. Every few years they actually put a decent basketball squad on the floor.
