I wonder if the Bonnies were looking past LaSalle last night and toward us...they went to OT and came back from down double digits. But the Bonnies have been 'odd' this year...but it's always a rock fight in Olean.

No, it was definitely a product of Schmidt leaning too hard on his starters and not using his bench at all. If they get into foul trouble, they are done.

They have a "rivals" link on their board too. The consensus (based on a handful of responses): Canisius, Niagara and Duquesne.

I know proximity and all, but geez. I'd be embarrassed to type that on my board. Good lord.

Man, that is one ugly message board.

Who is on the bench that you would play? He is playing the same line-up he had last year with the same bench participation (actually slightly more because of the games Lofton was out). Straight up, they have no bench and never really do, it worked for them last year.

I think Schmidt is riding or dying with this group of five this year and then he gone, unless he is going the same route as Mooney to juice a fifth year out of them if the season goes bust.

Another year, another good battle between the Rams & Bonnies (hopefully).

To answer a couple of questions to the above posters. Schmidt never seems to play more than eight guys. Last night was a bit exaggerated, but still holds true this year.

I get it, to an extent, but unlike last year, we have three very solid bench players who could contribute at higher levels than they're at right now. (3, I know..very impressive!)

Quadry Adams, A WF transfer, filled in very well for Lofton, but played one minute last and rarely plays double digit minutes unless there's foul trouble.

Karim Coulibaly, a Pitt transfer, has played well in his limited minutes, but usually only fills in for Osun for a couple minutes a half. He put up 12 pts and 7 pts in our first two games, but pretty much has played sparingly since then save a game here and there.

Linton Brown, a JUCO AA, was supposed to be our 6th man this year and the best 3 pt shooter on the team. He was out with COVID last night, but doesn't seem to play enough to get into any type of rhythm. He's played double digit minutes the past four games, but season high in points is only 10. SBU needs him to him to catch fire.

The rest of our bench is made up of freshman (4) and two redshirts, but they rarely play. If they get minutes Friday, something has definitely gone wrong.

Bonnies will go as their starters go. Would love to see us go after them early. In almost every game this season the Bonnies have gotten off to slow starts and have had to come back from deficits. Lock them down defensively, attack offensively (would be great to get Osunni in foul trouble) and limit turnovers. We owe them from the A10 championship game and the epic meltdown we had last year in Olean when we blew a 15 point halftime lead

SBU fans can be very dramatic. Think of Phillies or Yankees fans. You think you hate Bonnies fans? Well, a lot of us hate each other more than any opposing fan base ever will. (Kidding, somewhat...)

Issue with our fan base is it spans so many decades and our performance has fluctuated quite a bit during that span.

Fans/Alums in the 50s/60s truly believe our biggest rivals are Canisius and Niagara and would lose their minds if we ever axed those awful H&H deals. Hard to call either a rival because those fan bases really don't care and they almost always suck.

Fans/ Alums in the 70s/80s hate Syracuse the most, but don't think they are a rival. They all still nancy and moan about Jimmy B never agreeing to a game with SBU outside of the Carrier Dome. They played us in Rochester the year after they won their only title and got booed pretty aggressively when they came out of the tunnel. That didn't sit well with the Orange man.

90s/00s? Probably hates Saint Joes the most, but Martelli is gone and they are a shell of themselves.

Bona is like ND from a rivals standpoint. We have a lot of "rivals" but none of them think we are their top rival. It seems to change with the decade, but I would say at this moment Buffalo and maybe Saint Joes are the top rivals. Some would say Duquesne, but I don't even think they're aware they have a program.

The VCU game has always been interesting since you've joined they A10, so maybe this could be a thing if that continues!

I think Schmidt is an outstanding coach--maybe the best in the conference--but his reluctance to recruit and develop a decent bench has never made any sense to me. He has worked magic up there in the frozen north, so I suppose I should just admire his handiwork and keep my trap shut. But it is bizarre, and I think could be serious issue going forward, especially with omicron out there.
