RAMS EARN VICTORY IN FINAL DAY OF THE MATCH PLAY

ORLANDO, Fla. – Junior Marc Dobias (Lausanne, Switzerland) sophomore Rocky Khara (Sebring, Fla.) finished perfect for the tournament, winning their third matches in two days, to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a 4-2 win over Villanova Tuesday in the third round of The Match Play at Reunion Resort.

The Rams opened their spring season with a 2-1 mark at the tournament, defeating Seton Hall and losing to Central Arkansas on Monday.

Dobias and Khara paved the way for the Rams again Tuesday, as they had the previous day. Dobias knocked off the Wildcats' Michael Kania 2UP, while Khara defeated Derek Jones 3 and 2.

The Rams also received victories from sophomore Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.), who topped Brian Colbert 3 and 2, as well as senior Matt Smith (Lancaster, Pa.), who bested Bret McGaughey 4 and 3.

VCU returns to action Feb. 26-27, when it heads to Wilmington, N.C. for the Seahawk Intercollegiate.

It really is unfair when we have to compete against the ACC or Big East. Screw 'em.

DOBIAS LEADS RAMS AT LANDFALL TO EIGHTH-PLACE FINISH
GolfLandfallInvite-Main.jpg

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Being at the beach is usually a good thing. Unfortunately for the VCU golf team, their recent trip to the beach didn't end that way.

Junior Marc Dobias shot a 74 in each of the three rounds of the Seahawk Invitational to finish in the top-20 and lead the Rams to an eighth-place finish.

"I'm very disappointed in the way we hit the ball, 35 penalty shots amongst the team," Head Coach Matt Ball said. "Putting has been our nemesis and I'm pleased with the progress that I saw there in guys like Marc Dobias and Matt Ball, Jr. We are usually a good ball striking team so hopefully we can pull the two issues together in two weeks when we take to the course at Pinehurst Intercollegiate."

Dobias shot a two-over 74 each round to finish with a six-over 222, good for 18th on the weekend. Sophomore Matt Ball, Jr. blistered the course for a one-under 71 in the first round, but hit some bumps in the road over the final two rounds to finish with a 14-over 230 on the weekend, good for a top-40 finish.
