RAIN DOESN'T WASH AWAY SOLID PERFORMANCES
FROM VCU AT TRIBE INVITATIONAL

VCU PRODUCES AT 2012 FLORIDA RELAYS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The VCU Men's & Women's Track & Field program had a strong showing at the 2012 Florida Relays held over the weekend at the University of Florida.

"We had a productive weekend and did some really good things," said VCU head coach Jon Riley. "We still have room for improvement."

Freshman Kiara Porter set a personal record in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 53.98 seconds for 18th place. The Yorktown, Va., native finished just .08 seconds shy of the school record in the event.

"That was Kiara's season opener and she didn't disappoint us," added Riley. "I think she shocked herself with that time today, but I'm not surprised at all because I see the potential every day at practice. Great things are still to come from this young freshman.

Thanks for the updates E....

I have always been a track and field fan....few things
NOTHING shows the disparity between the physicality of men and women like the high jump. I did that event in HS, was extremely pedestrian, and still manged a personal best of 5'10".....5'3"???? I'm tellin ya, I could probably still clear 5" and I'm 37, 6'4", and 240-somethin.

A local girl from my system's high school (John Handley HS in Winchester) is attending VCU on a track schollie....she's quite good at the 200.400 and other various events. Verna Hilaire Lee

RAMS LOCKED AND LOADED
FOR CAA CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

RICHMOND, Va. – When Jon Riley and his staff took over the VCU women's track & field program four years ago, they knew this day would come.
For four years, Riley and his staff have rebuilt the Black & Gold and will be keeping a watchful eye on a very confident group heading into this weekend's CAA Championship meet.
"When we started four years ago, we talked to this group of seniors about how their time was coming and one day they would be the ones to set the standard for VCU Track. That time has come," Riley said. "We've got a confident group that has worked extremely hard, not only this year, but for their entire careers. They want it badly."
