The Offseason

Not sure if this was previously posted, but Coach Rhoades had his own Twitter "X" post, with pictures, of the players/staff now at PSU receiving their A-10 Championship rings.

Mike Rhoades
@CoachRhoades

Thank you to an awesome group of players & coaches for earning these rings! Always Champions! Absolute honor to coach these guys in front of so many awesome students, supporters, fans & of course the peppas in the Stu! #appreciation

Thanks....I just can't bring myself to "like" it......But I appreciate you, Wolfpack

On a scale of 1-10, I'd put my Morbid Curiosity Watching/Hoping PSU Basketball Get's Hammered in the Big 10 at around an 8.5

I would probably put mine at a 10, tied with Ohio State. :lol: Interesting that Coach Rhoades thanked the VCU students, supporters, fans and Peppas in his Tweet. Did he take the time to do that when he was leaving town? The man showed his true colors before he even made it to the Ashland exit on I-95 on his way to PSU. I'll give him 3 years max before he will be dealing with a bunch of angry beavers.

Yeah, this is a self serving, bullpoop tweet sent out to PSU nation (bc he blocked all the VCU fans) to show he won a title last year and that he is appreciative (which is a positive trait to have if its authentic). He isnt appreciative of VCU (fans, staff, program...) in the slightest imo. He will probably showcase the ring bc it is the last one he will likely see.

I'm sure he also sent it out to the Penn State fan base in an attempt to "validate" his hire and ability to win. :lol: No doubt it was self serving vs. being genuine to Ram Nation.

Regardless of how he and the players left, they earned the rings through lots of hard work. They should enjoy it and most likely that will be their only championship ring. Those rings at any level are hard to get. For us, time to “turn the page” and look forward to a new season.

There are plenty of VCU social media outlets that they could have shown their appreciation verse Coach Rhoades's Twitter account that blocked 75% of Ram Nation. There's a right way to do things and a wrong way, and Coach Rhoades has shown since the season ended that he does not do things the right way. That was a VCU moment, not a Penn State moment for him to try to validate his hiring and ability to win games.

And down we go. The power conferences don't want to play in the NIT, so they (and Fox Sports) are creating their own NIT.

"Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT. Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox. The network also has a rights agreement with the Pac-12, but it is unclear whether that league would be added due to complications arising from the Pac-12’s impending realignment defections."

I doubt anyone is excited for that or the NIT. Maybe they want a trip to Vegas. Always bet on black.

I think some of these TV contracts with the P5 are perhaps a bit over the top in terms of what the networks can actually pay. There is only so much money these networks can charge for content. And I think we have reached that point for many customers. There is going to have to be some outside the box thinking to be able to raise enough revenue to meet these obligations. I think we are likely to see some networks go under or thru re-organization. There is a breaking point for what people will pay for content.

At this pace, soon there will be more post season tournament spots available than actual D1 teams. Talk about meaningless.

I doubt the NCAA cares enough about the NIT to take the risk (and it would be a huge risk), but it could tell the P? that if they don't let teams play in the NIT the NCAA won't consider their teams for the NCAA tournament.

Agree that they probably don't care enough about the NIT, but if the NCAA sees this as a first step toward the power conferences making their own "big dance" then they might decide to draw the line early.
