In our case, I'd say losing players matters. If we were to lose another recruiting class it would be detrimental. After say 5 years with the coach and things still look grim, then sure cut bait even if it means losing players. With the amount of guys graduating this year, losing out on 2 recruiting classes in 5 years, and our freshman pg showing the most signs of life on this team, we cannot afford to lose a ton of players. I generally agree with you but 3 years is too early to tell if he's still your guy without a chance to field a team entirely of his recruits.I totally agree with the sentiment of this post. There is one thing I would nitpick, though, and that is, ADs should never make a decision on retaining a coach based on "players we can't afford to lose." Athletic Directors should, in my opinion, never be that shortsighted. Either your guy is the guy you want leading your program moving forward, or he's not. Players can come and go regardless of the coach's status, so don't make a decision based on them.
