Freshman, Ace Baldwin Jr., hit two free throws with 4.5 seconds on the clock to push the Rams to victory against the Billikens, 67-65.
Saint Louis was able to get a final shot off, but it would rim out as the clock expired.
VCU (17-5, 10-3 A10) was without the service of leading-scorer Bones Hyland who was resting his foot after a near-injury in the previous games loss to GMU.
The largest lead of the night was 8 points after the Rams got a three pointer from Vince Williams at the 18:05 mark of the second half.
Williams ended the night leading the Rams with both his 16 points and his 9 rebounds.
But the Billikens fought back and turned a 13-0 run into a 5 point lead with 14:37 to play.
In all, the game saw 18 lead changes and 14 ties.
The Rams only turned the ball over 7 times on the night, while forcing the Billikens into 15 total turnovers. Those 15 turnovers results in 13 points for the Rams.
VCU also racked up 6 steals on the evening and 7 blocks.
