KeShawn Curry banked a shot in off the glass with just 16.6 seconds on the clock to pull the Rams within one point, but a 9-0 Davidson run leading up to that proved to be too much for VCU to fight off.
Twice the Wildcats pulled ahead by 10 points, but each time VCU (10-6; 3-2 A10) clawed back into the contest.
At one point in the second half, Ace Baldwin, scored 8 straight points for the Rams and 10 points overall in a span of just under 4 minutes.
Two free throws by Baldwin gave the Rams their first lead of the second half.
The next two minutes saw five different lead changes as the teams traded baskets.
With just 5:23 to play the Rams took a 6 point lead—their largest of the night.
But, a four minute scoring drought combined with a 9-0 run by the Wildcats proved to be too much in the end for the Rams.
VCU used 17 Wildcat turnovers and translated that into 26 points of offense.
