Since we are so are so far ahead of the ticks, is there even a point in us considering them a rival anymore?

I think once a year is enough to play them, and there are better games out there we can get for our RPI purposes. Twice a year is too much.

It's pretty much like pistol whipping a blind kid at this point, also when you comment feel free to mention who you think our new rival should be.

When we move to the Big East I could see us still playing UR once a year, as the last pre-season game before we get to the meat of the schedule, but that's pretty much it.

How do you define rivalry? The best competition - Dayton, the Bonnies and St. Joes top the list. But when it comes to fur and fodu beating them just satisfies the soul. You not only get the pleasure of beating them but there's the added enjoyment of making them lose! Hard to top that.

How can Richmond not be our rival, they are in the same city and the same conference. Not to mention they are diametrically opposed to everything VCU stands for. They are elitest entitled private school kids. It's very much Duke unc just obviously not on that same level. Public school vs private school.

UR is a major rival as pointed out by Leopold and history alone will insure that.
We have conference rivalries of course and that too isn't going anywhere.

There certainly is a point.

I look forward to beating FUR each year. Even when they are bad, there have been some great games. Our history with FUR is a part of the rivalry. FUR had a top-100 RPI when we beat them at home, and the win helped us. Additionally, it was one of the most exciting run-ups to a game we have had all year (for both games).

Do you think any of the kids on the team or Coach Wade agree with your premise?

Until we get on a VT vs. UVa level football streak of consecutive wins, or FUR drops in RPI to a point where they hurt us every time we beat them, this conversation is premature.

Insane and cocky thread. 99% of VCU fans went into both UR games this year in fear of being beaten. It is because this is a rivalry game and because every time we play it is a tough game with lots of emotions. When they were kicking out butts, we didn't feel as though they weren't a rival and I guarantee it hasn't crossed their minds.

We need to poke a hole in our inflated heads sometimes prior to letting other teams do it by beating us down.
