He got fired from his job at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He's probably having to work harder to make ends meet, ergo rendering the viability of posting on these boards impossible.

Ah, I hadn't heard about that... I wonder if his collection of old printed VCU media guides went with him, or remained the property of the RTD?
I hear that kind of thing can play havoc with all kinds of activities, including advanced graduate studies ;)

I don't really remember Horn being an "insider" at all. I do remember that he had great knowledge of VCU bball history though.

Whenever he complained, his posts read like a flowery op ed piece full of metaphor, etc.

I even had an insider (a high school principal at one of Petersburg's opponents) offer to bet me a week's paycheck that Malone WOULD sign with VCU. A disbeliever by nature, I didn't take him up on it.

The Malone thing is true. I taked to a former VCU assistant that recruited him. (before a CAA tourny game about 3-4 years ago) He appearantly had a very good relationship with him almost to the point of mentoring and even keeps in touch to this day... He tells an awesome story where Lefty was at Malone's house the same time as him. The story goes as I remember it that Lefty was in Malone's bedroom when he commited to Maryland. Lefty yelled really loud and jumped up and broke Malone's bed. The VCU assistant claims he was dumfounded because Malone told him he wasn''t going to commit to Maryland. Lefty walked out all smiles with Malone following and Malone winked at the VCU assistant. Lefty took off and Malone said "Coach don't worry about that I ain't going to Maryland, I just wanted him out of my room, I still with you." (paraphrased)...a few weeks later a executive from Utah?(I think) showed up to Malone's house with a briefcase full of cash and that was all she wrote. Appearantly he was still torn, but ultimatly went to play professionally. This assistant said he had Malone going to VCU.

I often wonder where our program would be had he came here. This is all what I talked to the assistant about, whether its all true or not depends on the assistant that I was talking to.

That's sound like a authentic story because that's exactly what lefty would do in that situation. having said that, Malone never played a regular season game for Md so he probably wouldn't have played for VCU. If he had played for VCU, we would have been Georgetown with Patrick Ewing before Georgetown.

True or not, and I'm not doubting it for a second, that is a helluva good story.

Being from Philly, I luv me sum Mo and will never forget his Fo Fo Fo prediction. He was only off by one. I especially enjoyed having the opportunity to see him play summer ball on occassion in FSG.

And then there is good old Chuck Noe who signed Moses' cousin to play for VCU a year earlier just to get an inside track to speak with Moses. Moses's cousin was not named Malone; I don't think he ever played a minute for us.

I think people valued his knowledge of the program. I also think people bristled at what seemed to be an undercurrent of, let's say, unenlightened attitudes. Knowing now that he was part of the old RTD guard makes perfect sense.

I watched Moses play in the semi and Regional Final games in 1974 (?) held at VA State's facility. TJ (Otis Fulton-UVA, JR Tucker, Petersburg , and ? maybe GW. He was special, he was Maryland bound if college and the other is fantasy. But what a fantasy.
