What are your personal expectations for the team this year? You can select two responses for the poll.

I'm pretty optimistic about this team. There are some "ifs" but there is a lot of talent that goes very deep! Unless there is no chemistry at all, we will be competitive for the A10 regular season #1 seed and have a good chance to win the tourney, then be in position to make a pretty good run in the NCAAs. Of course I am definitely a homer, but objectively there is the talent to do this on this team.

This team has a so-so floor but a very high ceiling. If we make the tournament I think we might have a decent shot at making the second weekend.

Not sure if hopes are the same as expectations but I always want the team to have a great year, win the conference and get wins in the NCAA tournament. I always have that hope at the beginning of the season. I had those same hopes before seasons when Polio, McCarthy and Smith were the coaches. For this team I think if they play together like they did last season those expectations can be met.

With the loss of both Bones and Baldwin, I unfortunately think we will start out on the slow end but then come on as the season progresses with a very strong finish. I would be a bit more optimistic if Baldwin was available from the get go. All our experienced players are familiar with him and his game and they all trust each other during game time. Both Nunn and Tshonis will have to develop that in short order starting with a hot schedule in the islands. Even without Bones I was pretty optimistic with our island games with Baldwin at the helm and others stepping up in Bones's place. But Baldwin is our floor general and won't be available until Jan. But who knows, perhaps Nunn and Tshonis will surprise me. Tshonis does have experience and by all accounts, Nunn is getting very positive reviews this summer.
I will be disappointed if this team does not make the big dance with all the players we have coming back. I'm not so concerned with our inside game but we will need our perimeter players to step up their game on the offensive end and not simply look to whom they can pass it off to for the shot.

I look at St Bonnies and Uof R (all those 6 season players) being in the top 4 with VCU and Dayton -
We need to replace over 60 minutes of playing time with loss of A10 POY and best player Bones and Ace injury for Nov/dec/Jan?
we will have more balance and probably play better defense - may not initially shoot better from deep
a lot depends on how the two transfers (General Tso and Nichols ) fill gaps
and how quickly Freshman commit to playing real college defense and not AAU matador D and can contribute
I think the ceiling is Sweet 16 and would be woefully disappointed if not in NCAA tourney and in finals of A10 (provided no major injuries to starters)

22-23 becomes sweet 16 as expectation and conference sweep and top 25 all season long

My first year at VCU was 2006/07 when we won the CAA title, beat Duke, and lost to Pitt in OT. So the next season my hope was that we would take it a step further and win the conference and reach the Sweet 16. So far we still haven't achieved that so that remains my goal every season.

I think we will be first of all fun to watch and underdogs in a lot of the games we play. I expect a disappointing out of conference because of the loss of experience at the 1 and 2 guard spots. We will develop as the season progresses and will be better by the time A10 play starts...that's what Mike does. Assuming Ace is able to give us a solid 15 minutes a game in January and beyond, we should be pretty food headed into postseason. If Ace struggles to get back to form, this may be a 15-15 kind of year.

I would love to be proven wrong!

I would be very surprised if we are underdogs in more than 4 games in the A10 this season - so a 15-15 record would have this message board ablaze
could see us underdogs in up to 5 OOC games

Yep. Most prognosticators I have read so far have VCU as 3rd with an NCAA at-large or squarely on the bubble. Some better than that.

Did I dream the final four or did that really happen
