People bring a really interesting thought into this. For so many years the expectation was just trying to get to the tourney and get a win. Now it’s been kind of hovering in the 1-2 wins. One has to wonder how long before that shifts to like Sweet 16, Elite 8, etc with coaching staying consistent and the recruiting on the rise. Like if in coming years winning a game or even 2 is considered a disappointment? It’s a interesting thought if nothing changes as far as anything drastic affecting the program’s upward rise.
With all due respect, Coach Rhoades has never won a game in the NCAA tournament as a head coach. I hope he does, and I believe he will, but it's premature to start talking about routine sweet 16s.

As a mere fan, my hopes are for our guys to represent the University well while playing hard, disciplined basketball. Bust it at practice and go hard for 40 minutes each game. What else is there?

I have expectations for my kids. I have expectations for those I manage at work. I don’t have set expectations for young athletes that I do not know or interact with.

You are probably putting to much stock into your family, career, staying fit, and maybe a hobby that requires something on your end. As you slide into middle age you should live vicariously through 20 year old knuckleheads. A reasonable expectation.

Maybe not a perfect fit but this classic immediately came to mind upon reading your post!

  • Joey : Wait a minute. I know you. You're Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roger Murdock : I'm sorry, son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.
Joey : You are Kareem! I've seen you play. My dad's got season tickets.
Roger Murdock : I think you should go back to your seat now, Joey. Right, Clarence?
Captain Oveur : Nahhhhhh, he's not bothering anyone. Let him stay here.
Roger Murdock : But just remember, my name is...
    [showing his nametag]
Roger Murdock : ROGER MURDOCK. I'm an airline pilot.
Joey : I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense.
    [Kareem gets angry]
Joey : And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock : [breaking character] The heck I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night! Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!
