Villanova is really bad, to the point that Temple’s win over them has little value.
missing two players likely to be All conference -
Cam Whitmore one of top freshman in country broke his thumb in october and just returned last game
Justin Moore 3 year starter and 6'4" guard tore his achilles in last years ncaa tourney (avg double figures like 14 /game and 4 boards) he isn't back yet)

yes we know all teams have injuries to deal with but losing your best two players and a brand new coach has taken its toll early on - this pair would be comparable to playing without Bones and Ace for VCU

they will be fine once Moore is back and likely a tough out in their big east tourney

A new head coach too.

Frank Beamer teams won 37.5% of their games his first six years at VT.
Ok but lets look at the situations....

Beamer took over Tech Football in 1987... the previous coaching regime might've had some winning seasons... made 3 bowl games with only 1 win in those bowl games. Nothing to ooh and ahh over. And the only reason the previous coach left was due to allegations of recruiting violations... otherwise he likely woulda stayed after a 9-2 season & a win over NC State in the Peach Bowl. Also Tech at the time was an independent... they weren't in a conference & being expected to win conference championships.

Beamer wasn't walking into a program filled with rich history that was competing for conference titles & National titles year in & year out.... and well because Va Tech has never been in the Big Ten or Pac 12 for football... they also were not competing for a spot in the Rose Bowl.... the biggest bowl game there is.

Now.... look at what Rhoades took over in 2017.... Rhoades took over a program that was 6 years removed from a Final 4 (2011), 2 years removed from an A10 Tournament Title (2015), and had not missed an NCAA Tourney the previous 7 seasons (2011-17)... heck upon Rhoades arrival, we missed the Tournament 2 times the previous decade (2008, 2010).

Now sure MR was also coming in as the 3rd HC in 4 years.... but the expectations for Mike Rhoades were much higher coming in to VCU, than they were for Frank Beamer initially at Tech, due to the recent success & rise of the program at the time of Rhoades hire.

2 completely different situations if you ask me.

The expectations for Beamer at the time are probably more similar to those of the expectations that a guy like Capel probably had. Cause when Capel came in.... VCU had been to exactly 1 NCAA Tournament, and 3 total post season appearances since 1985.

And because he happened to work out that’s suppose to be convincing?
I was responding to the comment that some former coaches probably wish their schools had been more patient with them. Beamer was just an obvious example of a school being rewarded for its patience. I'm sure there are other examples. And, MR's record is not 37.5% wins; it's 65.6%, with his teams qualifying for 2 NCAA tournaments and 1 NIT in five years. Plus, while it may have been a long-shot, we were deprived of an opportunity for postseason when the A10 tournament and all postseason play were cancelled in a fourth year.

Different times.
Different sports.
Different histories.
Different expectations.

There are virtually no similarities between the situations for VCU basketball in 2022 and Virginia Tech football in the late 1980s/early 1990s.

You might as well have been comparing it with the decision of the Brits to terminate Charles I’s contract in 1649. It would be just about as relevant.

When the school has literally no recent or long term history of success at a high level.... what other choice did Tech have but to be patient?

I'd be willing to bet money, that if, at the time of Beamer's hire.... Tech was coming off of:
6 straight New Years 6 bowls (I guess could be an equivalent of making the NCAA tourney, prob slightly bigger of a deal because of money & recruiting) with a couple of wins
a Nat'l title game appearance (closest thing to a Final 4, since the playoffs had not been created yet),
and throw in a conference title (despite the fact Tech was an independent at the time)

That Tech's expectations for Beamer would have been A LOT different... and after year 2 or 3 of not winning a conference title (once they joined the BE I believe it was?) and not making a New Year's 6 Bowl...... Beamer most certainly woulda been criticized & pressured by fans, media, donors, school presidents... etc at a higher level than what MR is receiving currently from fans here at VCU.

The situations between MR & Frank Beamer expectation levels in the first 6 years.... are absolutely not comparable.

Heck Beamer would have been fired year 3 if Tech was coming off that success. Not saying Rhoades should have been fired by now. I’m just saying no way a college football coach survives winning under 40% for three years at a program that had sustained success.

Here's what I expect -

My family is going through some really difficult stuff right now. We're dealing with some serious mental heath issues. My kids look to me to be the strong one to lean on and count on. VCU basketball used to be a fun 2 hour plus escape for me. Not anymore. It means nothing other than entertainment in the big scheme of things.

Many of you know I post during the games. Call me out, nicely please, if you see me doing that going forward. Hold me accountable. I need to just record and watch later, if and when we win. Watching live is just frustration and not fun right now.

Still a fan. Still believing for the best.

VCU basketball is no longer good.

VCU basketball is no longer fun.

Why should I spend my time or money on it?

I’d expect us to not only not fall out of the top 100 but not then lose at home handily to a Asun team likely fall out of the top 120.

Hey man just posting to say I hope y'all get through this difficult time pretty quickly. We're all Rams fans together, even if we get frustrated with each other.

Same. I have too many important things I can be doing than paying money so VCU can support the illusion that MR is a good coach. I'm done going to games for the year. If VCU Athletics wants my support -they have to earn it.

No. Years of mental abuse that I was blind to/unaware. Was able to get them out of that environment 19 months ago. They are just beginning to open up and heal. Lots of counseling. Long road of recovery ahead for them.
