Where’s the beef?

Is it just me or do we only seem to recruit 2’s and 3’s? Any time we go up against a team with solid bigs we don’t seem to have much of an answer. When ever we do recruit someone over 6’7 they seem to be rail thin.

Huge slow guys don't gel with our style at all. So we go for length, speed, athleticism.

I get this but we have a squad full of those guys. Wouldn’t kill us to have a bruiser or two.

We get by with it in A10 and the cupcake OOC games. That's enough to satisfy the Net (usually) so that's what we do.
If we decide to be competitive against good teams we will change.
Now if the rest of the A10 decides to be competitive (and that may happen) we will have to change.

We brought in that 7 foot 1 transfer from Providence a few years ago. He couldn't keep up at all and saw like 0 mins, transferred out shortly after.

Yes its you. Deloach isnt a 3, nor was Johns, Fermin, or Tobi. Plus Zeb is a point guard. So yes, its just you.

I will agree that we need a rim protector and a true post defender. Delouch aint cutting it and it may be a while if he ever is stout defender in the post.

Dont know which team you watch, However, the VCU Rams were and are competitive. You dont win 27 of 35 games and not be competitive. We had a SoS in the mid 50's. Good teams. We defeated 2 P5 teams. Played 3 + Memphis. We also beat Tournament contestants Kenesaw St and Howard. We beat bubble P5 team Vandy again.

Plus P5 teams arent exactly lining up to play us but if you and the other guys who complain have some connections please let the AD know IMMEDIATELY, I am sure they'd be grateful. Yes, we lost a home to JSU but they were supposed to be #2 in their conference not at the darned bottom.

For all of you who are pissed and point to our loss to SMC in the tourney as vindication of your complaining about Mikes coaching ability or our teams progress. What two do you say to UNC, Purdue, UVA, Arizona, Mizzu. Memphis, Duke. Marquette. and Kansas all who lost earlier in this tournament than they expected? What about all; the P5 schools that didnt make it, even though they have NIL money and an easier path to the tournament.

We are a darned MM and a darned good one. We have a HC that has taken us to the Dance 3 of his 6 years with his first year being a rebuild that we all expected. Mike has won over 68% of his overall games, and over 69% of his conference games. He has been sat or 2nd 4 of his 6 years.

As Dick Vitale stated this past week, "its not as if the other guys aren't out there getting players".

So cut the crap about us not being competitive or Mike not being a good HC , or not recruiting well. We played a top 10 team and lost. it happens. See above. Its not if we lost to a lower ranked team and we did compete in that game.

Some one on here was arguing with me when I said no way in heck is DeLoach an NBA prospect at least not close right now. I love the guy but come on now let’s be realistic

So you dont think we need to add a rim protector and you'd be good with Delouch next year as our best post defender? I like Deloach, I think he has a lot to offer but I believe that if we want to move up a level we need a solid post defender.

Right now he is one of the worst post defenders that we've had in the last 10 years. Bigger guys give him heck, mobile guys give him heck, and now John's isnt there we have a hole.

I am certain Mike and crew are working on this via two avenues. Fermin, Tobi, and Deloach will have to work their arses off this summer and we will get some help through the transfer portal.

So, if you are good, I just hope Mike isnt.

If you stated that Deloach wasnt an NBA prospect, I would have been one who agreed and I agree that he got much better as the season went on.

Right now, he understands that he has to pass out of post, he can punish lessor bigs, and he is an energy guy. But big guys hurt him. Just that simple and he still is too emotional. He at times let's emotion take him out of his game. See SMC he just got down.
