The VCU Coaching Staff

He left you. Get over it
I wanted him to leave. He’s a dÎck and he’s not a good coach. I was clear about that for the last couple of years. I’m extremely happy that he’s gone and that he’s Penn State’s problem now. There’s nothing to get over.

I just don't get all the anger, name-calling, and vitriol for coaches who leave VCU. We've had 6 straight coaches, all of whom have been successful here, to varying degrees. A couple of them I got to know a bit, which is to say that we were on very friendly terms and would communicate some. So, they left. Who cares? Good for them. They took another job, which they see as a step-up in their careers and for their family. Most of us on this board would change jobs if we felt it was a step up in our careers and for our family. We should thank them and move on. It has no negative reflection on VCU at all.

I've said on here many times after players and coaches leave: VCU will be fine. VCU basketball is bigger than any one coach or player.

Why get angry and rip them as they go out the door? They left, we move forward. Heck, for all we know, Odom may end up being the greatest coach in VCU history, or he may not. Let's reconvene in 5-10 years and see how things look. It's certainly going to be a different brand of basketball and player around here than we've seen for most of the past 10-15 years. I am excited about the future of VCU basketball.

I agree with all of this. I never had an issue with a coach taking a new job, it is their life.

When I say I agree with this I believe your sentence that states They left, we move forward carries a lot of weight. I felt like during the disappointing times of the MR era, too many posters and fans wanted to talk about Shaka or Will. Both of those coaches left so I moved on from them. I have good memories from both of their tenures, but they also left VCU so hyping up their coaching ability was a waste of time in my opinion.

Never talked sh-t about any of the other coaches that left (WW was obviously a slimy POS) simply because they left VCU. MR always rubbed me the wrong way without me being able to put my finger on it. I wanted to like him.. seemed like a real blue collar type, but he was harboring some weird sh-t inside. On top of that, he was a decidedly mediocre coach, and that was the most frustrating part. On top of THAT, he left like a total dickhead. The dude comes across as a coward to me. He can take that weak sh-t somewhere else. I understood Grant and Capel, and Shaka I would run through a f-ckin wall for

Well, opinions vary.

And how is that? He had an interview, got an offer on Sunday, he talked to Ed who counter offered, discussions ensued over 2 1/2 days until Wednesday morning, Ed couldn't meet what MR wanted so he took the PSU job. It all occurred in less than a week.
WW ran out in the middle of the night
Shaka.....interviewed at TX, got an offer, discussed it for a couple of days with Ed, Ed couldn't meet what Shaka wanted so he took the TX job. It all occurred in less than a week.
Grant was out the door and about ready to step on a plane after only one year here.....from then on, it was only a matter of which season he would leave.
Capel left after his first opportunity, got an offer, accepted it and was gone.

So how was MR a dickhead?

Slightly unrelated, but Will Wade was actually in the building for Mike Rhoades' announcement presser. It was incredibly weird, but right before it started I looked up at the Tommy West Club and there he was, looking down on the arena. It was almost like an evil force watching from above.
