For Funsies: Conference Reallignment/Creation

Yeah, probably just making sure they're ready in case - but the fact this hasn't been included before but is now certainly makes it notable.
Especially given the AD is apparently pretty confident about reseating and such. It's probably nothing, but there's at least a little smoke here. Like maybe a matchstick.

Friendly neighborhood floodgate opener here,

One could also read this and think that Odom has a good agent.

You ain't wrong that could be the case but... I love VCU but I found it curiously that Odom would leave a good situation at USU to come here. I understand that we are closer to his normal recruiting pipeline but still that was a quick move out of a good conference.

From what I have heard VCU is high on a potential list for the Big East. The Big East TV contract is up for negotiations next year and the UConn to the Big12 talk makes it all interesting to think about.

From what I have learned, Logan is a very long (and very inconvenient) way from civilization. If your family is in the area and you are an outdoorsy type, it's probably great. Odom's entire extended family and all of his history are more or less here. Even if VCU and USU were dead equal in all other respects, getting out of the wildernees might be extremely appealing.

I’d rather be in the BE with UConn, but if their leaving the conference gets us in then I’m fine with it.

I think the important thing in this move is that VCU pays about twice as much as USU. Throw in being close to home and the fact that our last 5 coaches have moved on to P5 jobs (4 of the 5 getting offers after 2-3 years) and it’s a pretty easy decision for Odom.

And the fact that he was probably going to USF before we offered indicates that the USU job isn’t as attractive as it might seem.

You’ve got to be an old geezer to remember this Art.

Yeah but I want to stir the pot with conspiracy theories

To be honest, these days it doesn’t seem to be a bad idea as far as the coach is concerned to have that language in there.

I’d think a coach at a school jumping up in class could get more anyway (language or not).

/not invested enough to look up relevant situations and besides, I have corn to shuck and a grill to light!

This is a possibly important development. AAU membership is a really big deal. And the Big Ten values it a lot. UNC and UVA are already AAU members, but this makes them adding Notre Dame and Miami more possible too. USF being on the list too is interesting.
