The Official Beat the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City in the NIT Quarterfinals Thread

The good news is Odom knows how to play in Utah and should have the guys ready for the altitude etc.

He however knows nothing about playing Utah because the Utes have been too chickenpoop to play the Aggies. Haven't gone up to Logan since 2010 and only played once in the last 14 years.

A knock on Craig Smith is his recruiting only slow white guys, but they can generally shoot well.

Bad news is Odom ain’t suiting up. Altitude is huge if you’ve never experienced it. SB and Max will be fine but our other guys will be gassed. We will need all hands off deck.

Btw, SLC is one of the cleanest and weirdest US cities to visit.

Amazing that our Rams are the last A-10 team standing in postseason play, given all the ups and downs during the season. Let's give credit where it's due. To the coaching staff and players. A lot of things have to go right to make it this deep into the season. Dare I say the future looks bright!

Utah will be like facing two Neil Quinns beside a muscular and skilled forward as the three across the front line. At the same time, they might have challenges matching up with us. It will be almost April and we are still playing, not many teams can say that whether it is The Big Dance or the Little Dance. At this point, every team that is still playing is an NCAA calibur team in both talent and play.

I like that K-2 has regained his shooting confidence and that over the last month has totally locked into the effort on defense and rebounding and it has made us better. Obviously it was great to see Fermin play with confidence and out young guys beginning to show some sophomore evoluation here late in their first full season.

We know from playing St Mary's in postseason in the past that like them Utah will make the interior difficult and will pass the ball well. We will need to team rebound and also hit shots to be competitive. I would like to see us extend out season into April and use that with our current recruits.

All true, but I have to admit I'd rather be sitting at home with Dayton and Duquesne than still playing in the NIT. But I agree, props to the team for still playing to win and giving us their all. I happy to still have a chance to watch the Rams and to see us have the opportunity to play some P6 teams.

Took a look at the metrics and they're all over the place.

Utah is #48 in the NET. On KenPom, they're #48 in offensive efficiency and #45 in defensive efficiency.

However, despite that high defensive efficiency mark, they're 271st in 2-pointers allowed, 240th in 3-pointers allowed, 345th in total field goal attempts allowed, 289th in defensive rebounds allowed, and they foul a lot (262nd in personal foul rate). They also commit a lot of turnovers (209th).

This definitely feels like a winnable game, especially if Max gets out of his slump.
