Only two 11 sees have ever made the Final 4 and i have an almost direct link to both. The first was in 1986 when an improbable LSU team came back from a chicken pox epidemic during the season to beat: Purdue in double OT in round one, Memphis on a last second shot in round two. Ga. Tech in regional semis in round three and the best team in the SEC that year Kentucky in round 4 by two points (KY had beaten LSU the 3 previous times that they played including SEC tourney). I grew up an LSU basketball fan watching Pistol Pete. I was at the 1981 Final 4 when they lost to Indiana in the semi-finals. I have a cousin that played on that team. I wanted to go to LSU but my parents could not afford to send me away so i stayed home and went to George Mason. I followed Mason basketball as a diehard fan from 1981 - '85 and then i transferred to VCU when my allegiance became Black and Gold (part time student at Mason while working a lot).

So we all know the Mason story. So 25 years ago i was cheering on the tigers in the Final 4 in Dallas (Texas connection) and 5 years ago we were in Indianapolis cheering on both LSU and GMU in the Final 4 in Indy.

So now its 5 years later and lo and behold - the only team that i have followed of the 3 that has not made the Final 4 is on the doorstep and its 25 years since LSU made it as a 11 seed and this is my 25th year in Richmond following the Rams ! - do you believe in miracles !! I do !!

i am telling you this thing goes in cycles - 25 year cycle since LSU made it. 5 year cycle since LSU and GMU made it. 25 years since i have been at VCU. First year not working VCU athletic events in 25 years. decided to focus on making more games and supporting the mens squad !

do you believe in miracles ??? I do !!!

And what does that have anything to do with a bunch of wonderful kids working hard to get here?

Sorry, but this run has exactly nothing to do with your silly personal number games.

What makes it even more special is that two of the listed are from the CAA, not the A10, Conf. USA, etc. From the CAA

Geez alex - thanks for trying to rain on my parade !What the heck did i ever do to piss you off ?? I have only been a season ticket holder and athletic dept employee for 25 years. i only broadcasted hundreds of VCU womens basketbal and mens and womens soccer games the past 7 years. i announced probably over 1,000 vcu womens hoops, baseball, field hockey, soccer and volleyball games. I believe in miracles and this is a miracle. Just like '06 was a miracle for mason and '86 was a miracle for LSU - go rain on someone else' parade Alex - u arent going to ruin mine !!!

I have the VCU and LSU connection going. I went to VCU 1979-1983 for undergrad, and then to grad school at LSU 1983-1985. I alternately bleed black and gold, and purple and gold. I love LSU football and I was always a big Dale Brown fan (hoops coach at LSU). I remember that Final Four run in '86, as that LSU basketball was a wild ride that year. I think it's pretty crazy that both of my schools have now made it the Final Four as #11 seeds! So hard to believe that LSU's run was 25 years ago! I will be old 25 years from now!

I now live about 15 minutes from GMU, and we had my daughter's Bat Mitzvah at GMU's new facility called The Mason Inn back in January. That's as close a connection that I have to GMU.
