Dude was just stating his opinion, no need to slow roast him. In fact, I've heard others say the same thing to me.

That isn't to say I agree, I am willing to bet there are a couple more people that feel the same.

I don't think he was saying lie down and let TU make a run, I think he was just saying, play keep-a-way for 25 seconds and then penetrate.

But, I'm not trying to speak for any one...

Thank you.

You're welcome..

..I still don't agree through. ;)

Just like the UNC-W game, there simply were no more dogs to call off.

Maybe the graduate assistants, conditioning coach, and trainer can go in next time we're in that situation.

I'm pretty sure Mike Pegues could of stepped off the bench and roasted the Tigers last night! Look L72 if nothing else consider that this gave our backups/freshman signifigant experience in a real game to run the offense at full speed against another D1 bball team, thats invaluable cant just ask them to throw the rest of the game and miss that opportunity. That would be idiotic.

Would have been nice to see Rodney A get out there like old times. Mike Ellis could have yelled at him just like he did when he was coaching with Sonny. Mike was funney as heck on the side lines. I used to sit under the basket by the VCU bench when we played at the Coliseum. You could hear everything Sonny and Mike said. People often think of Sonny as the comedian but Mike always kept it really entertaining. He would say any and everything to the refs.

We stopped pressing them, we played subs a lot of minutes, slowed down the break, etc. So I don't think we really ran up the score, though I guess the number of threes we shot could be intrepreted that way.

I always struggle with this issue when the losing team is playing hard trying to score, going for steals, playing hard defense, but the winning team is expected to stop playing. I say if the losing team starts running down the shot clock and stops playing hard (essentially giving up) that's when we do the same.

I agree completely. I think this is what caused the tiff at the end of the W&M game. Shaver was still coaching and calling timeouts and being aggressive, yet I think his players thought we should have backed off. They got mad when we didn't.

Deal with it.

How many people think we ran the score up and do you think we should have ran the clock, gone four-corners?

Don't get me wrong, I loved the game. Had a great time. But???

With all due respect....nonsense.

You've got guys getting opportunities to use those minutes to make impressions upon the coaches and earn further playing time. No way should they not be allowed to use that opportunity to show what they're capable of and impress the staff.

agreed. when i saw this thread, i was going to post pretty much the exact words stated above.

guys like jay gavin are competing for playing time, and must show what they are capable of, whether the score is tied, or the rams are up 40. i'm glad gavin came in and shot threes even though we were up huge. he had no choice. gotta show what you can do when given the opportunity. there's not only competition with the opposition, but within the team as well.

when a young pitcher comes into meaningless game with his team up 10-0 in the eighth inning, he's not going to throw 85 when he's capable of throwing 95. he's gonna bring the heat because he wants a starting job someday.

True

The only real currency is playing time. Plus there is the pride factor as well...any athlete wants to do his best when given the chance, especially when those chances are limited.

Excellent analogy. Spot on.

Each of those guys who played last night had an opportunity to enhance their resumes, and each...seemingly...did so.

Joey was the only guy who played 20 or more minutes last night. I think we were pretty nice to them. We ran clock and took threes at the end of possessions. They went in. Oh well. I don't think we could have done much differently, except miss shots on purpose.

Play clean and hard. If they don't like it, they can get us up at Towson.

went over to the zone and there were ZERO comments about us running up the score...there were however, lots of guys with pitchforks and torches ready to storm Kennedy's castle and burn him at the stake...
