Wow...I guess they are already making the schedule for next year. I wonder if they have sponsor for the tournament...

my dream 'posibility' opponents for this tourny...(with in reason)

Georgetown
Wake (only if they arn't playin U of R at Robins Center) (McKie homecoming)
Xavier
Western Kentucky
Siena
NC State
Ga. Tech
Fla. St.
Miami fla. and/or Miami of Ohio
WVU
Michigan
BC
Davidson
Gonzaga
St. Joes
Villanova
St. Johns (pos. return game at MSG)

* I do see there being us, 2 low majors, and a big....however, if the money is there, two bigs perhaps
** Tech and UVA will ofcourse will puss out. Maybe UVA, but doubt it. Money would have to be huge, and a return to JPJ thrown in.

Let's hope Tony Bennett has more of a clue than Lietao...

More wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be nice for a state tourney?! How about one state team each from each conference represented within VA.

VCU -- CAA
Va Teach or UVA -- ACC
UR -- A10
Liberty, Radford or VMI -- Big South
Norfolk or Hampton -- MEAC

Every school is within 4 hours of Richmond and the Center of Virginia Basketball Excellence "The Stu". Winner could arguably be called the best team in the state of VA.

Nice, a very proactive move by the new regime to get the VCU brand out there. The ad mentions a "very good guarantee"...I wonder where the dough will come from, uness the venue is the Coliseum. Either way, this'll be a nice little road trip for me to get a little time away from the family and yell and scream like an idiot.

From my calculations, this will mark the first occasion since Dec., 1977, that VCU has hosted an in-season tournament.

A look back:

In Dec. 74, the Rams defeated St. Peter's, then fell to Texas A&M in the finals of the Lions Holiday Tournament at the Coliseum. It was in the A&M finale that Richard Jones took a terrible tumble and suffered head and back injuries and missed the next 12 games.

In Dec. 75, VCU defeated City College of New York, then upended Michigan State in the VCU Holiday Tournament at Coliseum. Gerald Henderson, MVP.

Then in Dec. '77, the Rams whipped Norfolk State and then East Tennessee (coach by Sonny Smith) in the Coliseum Invitational. VCU freshman Penny Elliott was MVP.

The long gap is misleading, however. Home-bound Rams' fans haven't been treated that harshly.

VCU participated in the Times-Dispatch Invitational on its own home court, the Coliseum, 15 times.

Also, there are some that might imply VCU has hosted the Colonial Athletic Association tournament every year since 1996.

Probably wont get any BCS schools but an anual tournament that brings the best mids would be great

My dream would be a CAA-ACC grudge match, with us, GMU or ODU taking on UVa and VT, with each school playing both of its OOC foes...

I would not want to involve conference schools in a holiday tournament. The conference season is after New Years Day. I like the idea though of us against them. Maybe VCU and Richmond against two other foes and just switch opponents the second night.

Ideally I would like to make it a three day event with the two other schools playing each other the third night and VCU and Richmond meeting in the nightcap. To appease the Ticks they could host in 2011.
VCU take the even years after that and the tourney would be in Mushland on the odd years.
We would call it the Richmond Roundball Round Robin.

.

That was a horrible fall and Dickie probably suffered brain damage from it. He was mentally not the same
dude after that.

I'll pass if this is going to be our Tournament it should be our tournament. No need to share control of the tournament with anybody else.
