The 4 hosts are UCLA, Tennessee, Villanova, and Wake Forest, each in a 4-team pod with the pod-winner moving on to Madison Square Garden in New York City.
UCLA regional:
UCLA, Nevada, Pepperdine, Pacific
Tennessee regional:
Tennessee, Missouri State, Belmont, Arkansas State
Villanova regional:
Villanova, George Washington, Boston University, Marist
Wake Forest regional:
Wake Forest, VCU, Winthrop, Hampton
We'll have to beat Winthrop to play Wake Forest, facing Hampton if we don't. If we do beat Winthrop and then Wake to move on to New York, Villanova, Tennessee, and UCLA are not bad games by any means.
Wake will be young with a new coach and we'll have an experienced back court which should give us a good chance. We can't look past Winthrop as they are a solid program with a history of success under Coach Gregg Marshall (who since moved on to Wichita St.) which continued last year going 19-14 with their 5th NCAA berth in 6 seasons and 9th since 1999. They return 5 of their top 6 scorers and are led by rising junior Reggie Middleton who averaged 10.1 ppg last season. It looks like we're probably in the toughest pod as Winthrop and Wake were NCAA teams last year, and we all know how much Hampton gives us problems. It'll be a good early season test for us.
